Default Finally got one of my dream cars

On Friday, I actually got to pull out of the dealers parking lot in one of my dream cars...with my name on the title!

I got my license just before I turned 17 and started driving my 86 Chevy S-10. Since then (I turn 20 in 2 months), I've been through a lot of cars:

86 S-10 (still have, piece of s***)
90 Probe (blew engine)
93 3000GT (blew transmission, damn previous owner...)
94 Bonneville (blew transmission, damn previous..wait, that one was me
94 Talon (sold when I joined the Air Force)
87 RX-7 (blew engine)
07 Cobalt (traded in on the Z!!!)

However, through all of those cars I told myself there were 4 cars that I would instantly trade whatever I was driving in on : Evo, WRX, S2000, and a 350Z. When I went to look at a WRX the other day, I decided to stop in at the Nissan dealership and see if they had a Z within my price range, not really expecting it but I was hoping. Somebody was trading in their 03 Z within the next few weeks for an 08, and they were going to give me the first shot at it!

After some negotiations with the price and payments, I drove off the lot on Friday in my black 6-speed 2003 Touring 350Z and black leather interior!!!

Before I get flamed for people thinking that my parent's bought me my car, I'd like to point out that I've paid for every single car that I've owned. All that they have done is co-signed on the loans for the Cobalt and 350Z because I don't have enough credit built up to get them myself.

I've officially had the car for 3 days now, and have already bought the parts for my first mod (removing the rear windshield wiper, next up is tint the windows and shade the taillights.)

I have a feeling I'm going to be on here a lot, so I will see everybody around.

Part of the reason is buying cheap, beat-up cars and the other part of the reason is driving them really hard. I'll admit that the Probe and Bonneville were completely my fault that they blew up. The 3000GT's auto transmission went out 3 days after I bought it. When we took it to a shop, they said there was no way I did that in 3 days. The RX-7 was kind of a mixed one: it had almost 190,000 miles on it, but I still drove the hell out of it. The S-10 I bought for $50, so I'm surprised that it lasted as long as it did. It still runs...kind of.

Thanks guys,

I'll be sure to treat this one right. I treated my Cobalt really well, but unfortunately some a**holes at the softball fields on base decided they didn't want to and backed right into her, then drove off without leaving a note or anything.

How are you going to care for this car if you can't take care of something dirt cheap? It kinda sounds like you beat on things. No offense, but thats how I see it and I'm scared for your car.

just turned 20 a couple months ago and also joined the AF a couple months ago..
Got to my first duty station and only thing on my mind was an affordable upgrade sports car. Waited two months now have a 03 blck track ed...
So i feel ya man but take care of her... Ive had mine for two weeks and she appears to be quite high maintenence lol. So be soft and gentle and she'll more likely to take you for a hell of a ride when you want it.

mikie - No offense taken! But contrary to popular belief, the Air Force does teach you to become more responsible I took really good care of that Cobalt, and with how much I love this car, I'm going to take even better care of it.

lixam - If you're in North Carolina, I'm pretty sure my best friend from tech school is there too. Probably better than Offutt. Once you get on it, you can't get offutt! But there's a really good car scene here, and a Z club based in Omaha that I'm gonna try and get to a couple of their events. Good choice on the Air Force, I'm really enjoying the year and a half I've put in so far.

I keep reading 'bout blown engines, messed-up trannies, etc.; I'm 59, & have
owned: '61 Ford Falcon, '67 Beetle, '55 Chevy!, '72 Beetle, '77 Rabbit (LEMON
!!!), two '80 Dodge Champs, '89 Mazda 323, six Nissans: Sentra, Xterra, Maxi-ma, Altima, P'finder and, finally, the Zed! NEVER have I blown an engine or destroyed a tranny...I believe scheduled, high quality synth' oil and tranny fluid changes are CRITICAL, to avoid these horror stories. GET WITH THE PROGRAM, those of you who seem to slack off in that department!

Well, the red line governor should save your engine, unless you mis-shift down. If I were your transmission and clutch, I think I'd be writing my will and last testament about now.
A high five for your parents for backing you up, but not paying your way. It's amazing how much faster off-spring learn that way.

Welcome, congrats on the car, and if you keep it in one piece you will get more joy out of it than you imagined and for a long time. Happy driving.

Thanks I1DER. I think that's part of the reason why I've taken a lot better care of my last couple cars then the first ones, because I knew I couldn't go running to mommy and daddy to pay for a new car when mine died or something. I realized that not taking care of my cars really caught up with my bank account. I might not have had the best car in the parking lot at school (usually the worst), but I could honestly and proudly say that I paid for it myself.

As for the transmission and clutch writing their last testament, everyone of the cars that I blew up (not counting the high-mileage RX-7) was an automatic. I haven't had a single problem with any of my manual transmission cars. It's just kind of different having that extra gear there now

You have a history of blown transmissions...
I find it funny that you got an 03 350Z with that in mind.

But welcome
