Default What Year Z to Buy?

Hi Z peoples,

I am new to this site, and am looking to get a 350z (used) but am researching a bit and see all of these problems and dont know what year to buy?!

I currently am a member from MySpecV.com and own a 2002 Sentra Spec-V that just exploded on me about a month ago. I thought, well, the $ I spend on a new motor or a rebuild kit would be better used towards a down payment on a Z, I need a car now and will rebuild the Sentra later by christmas and slap a turbo on that damn thing!

Nissan blood literally runs through my family, I am Nissan faithful, despite the problems they have even for being a JDM company, since JDM is known for reliability.

So.. I want an HR, and was looking @ '07s but my friend has one and has gone through a transmission already and is about to experience the shitty clutch situation with less than 2x,xxx on the car, but it's sooo much fun to drive!!! I want the projectors, and LED tailights like on the 06+ models... But I hear about this damn problem with oil consumption... same with 05s.. but does that apply to the base models w/6spd?

EVERYONE tells me not to get a 2003 Z b/c thats when they first came out, and 2002 is when my QR25DE engine came out in the sentra... look what happens there ... Problems problems and more

So, do I look for an 04 or what?! I swear, Nissan is like Sony, they throw new **** out to see how it all does, and it turns out defective.

Anyways, a little wise (but not too wise, to the smartasses ) help would make my year y'all!

Thanks,
~VP~

theres only one year Z...the 35th for the win!...No but honestly I personally love the 35th because I get some of the features from the track and touring models all in one. But at the same time kind of wish I had an 07-08...Although I probably cant afford either one anyways. So to me those options were forgone. BTW I had a turboed spec v ...You've probably seen a lot of my friends and mine on vids when the vboard was up.

'O4, 'O5, 'O7, and on. The 'O3 had a couple issues (mainly, tire feathering); the 'O6 has oil-consumption issues. Obviously, the newer, the better, 'xept for the MPG--1 less than previous years'.

My '06 has no oil consumption problems at all. However it does have xenon headlights, LED tails, stock 18" wheels, and the no hump hood. That's the only year you get that combo.

Get rid of the Spec V! I had one, had to replace the motor twice, I finally traded it in on an 04 Enthusiast.

Also remember to only rule out 06 and the 05 aniversery edition if they are manual. The auto's don't have the oil consuption issues and have all the other good things from that year. I have an 06 and have had the engine replaced, would rather avoid that if I could.

Thumbs up

An exception doesn't break a statistical pattern; 'O6s have a history of oil-
consumption issue. Just like my 'O4 Touring Coupe doesn't suffer from fea-
thering, but that year DOES have a history of said glitch. Sowy!

dude, why would you ever push someone towards getting an auto? the only reason to have one is if you only had one leg or one arm.

Let me ask this question except while changing it up a bit.

Is the extra money of an 04 worth the money over an 03 which is pretty much the exact same car? I mean if both have 40k miles honestly any initial problems would have been address under warranty i'm sure. I am looking to buy a DB Z or SuperBlack with under 50k miles and at least be Enthusiast. I am a little thrown off by buying the first year of a car it is released since i wont have any kind of warranty or anything. I know it had "tire feathering" issues however once again i imagine at 40k miles these issues would have been addressed by the previous owner(s) right?

I still want an 04 DB Enthusiast Z real bad....don't care about the leather and extras of Touring honestly. If it was a real good deal sure.

If both and 03 and 04 are pretty much in the same condition, same mileage, the 04 should in theory be worth more, as a more recent year. And yes, you would presume by now previous owner/s would have ironed out any issues, unless you had a lax previous owner. Whatever you go for check it over thoroughly, or take it to a mechanic you trust to check it out.
