If a motor is built right it can be started for the first time, warmed up, and taken down the track WOT.

But to be safe...on my only "new car" I drove 500 miles out of boost (so low rpm, low throttle). then another 200 or so being kind to it. I then changed the oil and filter....then drove it like it was stolen.

I just broke mine in literally an hour ago. I think it's at about 1202 miles now

Kind've a stupid question but about what mileage does everyone usually get their oil changed on their new Z's?

I broke mine in a few days ago and it's been a blast. After 1,200 miles, I turned off the TC, launched the car at 3500 RPMs, shifted right before redline on every gear, then watched the speedometer climb effortlessly. The rear end struggled for traction when I shifted to second, but the car remained stable and in control nontheless. Autobahns do have speed limits at certain sections and I had to slow down before the Z maxed out. I did however, reach 154 MPH, about 5 less than my 2004 Z (which I sold).

I'll get mine changed at 3,000, but I know some people who changed theirs right after the break in period.

When i just purchased my 08, the salesman told me to not worry about the break in period, "just don't redline it for the first 1000-2000 miles". He seemed like a fairly well educated guy so I figured I'd listen to him.

However, yesterday was a beautiful day outside and I wanted to take my pops for a ride for the first time. With only 250 miles on the car (driven slow/steady at under 3k rpms) I decided to show him the power the Z had...I shifted at around 5700RPMS in every gear and once in 6th I 'shut 'er down'. I actually felt bad for my car and feared the worst.

Should i be worried about taking the RPMs that high, that early?
