Default Just bought a Z

Hi Everyone-

So not really the practical side of me was thinking today and I pulled the trigger. I spent the weekend seeing and driving several models with a bunch of bells and whistles, mostly had AT, and also most had some very questionable body repairs that I was able to notice with a close inspection... Then the last car I would have time for today was a beautiful base model, no traction or leather but a 6 speed and pretty close to mint condition paint (the best I have seen on a used 350 by far), I had to have it so I bought it.

I traded in my old Bimmer and got a very fair price. Of all the cars I drove this was by far in the best condition and had the best ride of the bunch, what a beast these things are! It's a 2004 with just over 34k miles on it. It's the silver color but almost a green hue to it, maybe they call it silver metallic or something, if I were to buy new this is the color I would pick.

The only thing I am nervous about is living in the NE area and driving all year with this, no traction control and the stick could get a little slippery if I am not careful. The good thing is that my lovely girlfriend drives a Jeep and I only work 10 minutes away, so long as the roads are plowed I should be fine and in any major storms I can just take a cab or ask my girl for a ride (we live together). I have always had cars that are not great for snow anyways though, a Vr4 3000gt back in the day (I must say the AWD was nice), the past 8 years a 325is (Traction control seemed to help at times and get it stuck at others, a good option to have), and of course now I am taking a new challenge with the Z (no TCS and a fair amout of anxiety). I think the only thing that makes me nervous is not having the option of any traction control, for some reason I have minor anxiety about this, but I did have a Camaro for my very first car at age 16 and I drove in weather back then that I would not dare venture out in now (smarter now I would call a cab). When driving in poor weather I tend to be very cautious and I expect I will need to be a little more sharp with my skills on this car, although my 325is became easy after 8 years of all weather driving I am expecting a new challenge without any traction system in place. Usually my TCS in the 325 would actually need to be turned off when I was stuck in snow, but it's the corners that have me worried. When snow is falling I stay in, I am not a skier or a "winter sportsman", and I always wait until the roads are clear to drive anyways, unless of course I need to get to work but that's only 10 minutes and it's all busy/4-lane/main roads.

Anyways, if anyone has words of advice regarding this all-year no traction RWD situation please feel free to lay it on me. I was hoping to get one with TCS but this one was just too clean and rode too nice to not buy. I think my excitement is much greater than the snow anxiety though, can't wait to get my hands on it this week. Once i get some good pictures I will post them up!

Thanks

Congrats. You can get buy without TCS. Also, you can add an after market LSD & should probably do so.

You will also going to need snow tires if you do much winter driving. Blizzaks are the ones I see referred to on here most often.

If you are accustomed to driving a RWD in winter, the 350Z will be OK. You just have to be sensible about 32 degree road surface and traction.

Find an empty parking lot and run some figure eights. That way you will not be surprised on the street.

Thanks for the replies, I have a lot of respect for the power this car makes so I think I will be fine. If anyone has info on the "LSD" please feel free to add a link.

Thanks

Don't get snow where I live. So I'm not much help, but welcome to the forum anyway.
