Whats up everyone.

I have been a member/lurker on My350z for a while now. I joined when I was deciding between an S2000 and a Z. Lets just say I made a short-term decision. Due to my undying love for fast food or just delicious, greasy, fatty food I have outgrown my S. I am in no way a fat-***, I am just not a stick anymore like I used to be

So since I am graduating college, and I can no longer deal with being in a sardine can, I will be purchasing a 04.5-05 G35 coupe or 350z. I went ahead and ruled out the pre-4.5 years due to the feathering and tranny issues that I had been told about. Is there any other non-common sense stuff I need to look for when test driving?

My old roomate had a base Z (another reason I didn't get the Z - we have comparable driving abilities and it was fun to expose each of the two cars strengths and weaknesses) so I know for the most part how it is supposed to drive. Thanks in advance all. I look forward to becoming a part of this community, compared to the stuffy *******s with NO sense of humor that consume s2ki.

Oh and here are my previous cars, so as everyone can tell the G/Z will NOT stay stock for long.

Welcome very long time lurker. Best advice, test drive a few before deciding, same goes for any car, you'll soon realise what to look out for, and mostly have a good look around the forum. Would be very few topics not covered in the last 5 + years.

1 out of 10 “Thinking about getting a 350Z” members ever gets a 350Z.

Yeah I am DEFINITELY between an STI and a Z.

Reasons I want the STI:
AWD
More power in stock condition
Boost
Larger interior
NASTY exhaust note

Reasons I want the Z:
Baller factor
Exhaust note (thanks to Youtube opening my eyes to a Nismo exhaust with ultimate cats)
More planted feeling compared to the S
Overall body styling is better than the STi
Cost compared to mileage/condition when considering the Z vs the STi

I am 80% leaning to the Z now though. And yes I have always loved Hondas, but they don't offer anything that satisfies my current needs.

And trust me I know this is a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE question to ask because it has been covered a million times, so Ill appologize in advance. BUT if I was to go with a plenum spacer (need a recommendation on the best), pop charger, nismo exhaust with the y pipes, and headers (I've noticed a lot of people have been installing Megan) I should realize around 25whp in gains correct?

Ricer punk Status instantly upon purchase (it's true we all think it)
Box on wheels
NOT a true sports car
cheap lancer like interior
Did i mention ricer punk?? lol

Reasons I want the Z:
Quality
They don't make a "lower model" (Impreza vice WRX)
REAL sports car
It will attract women, not girls! (there's your "baller" factor, lol)

FIXED!!!!

Sorry man, you are on a Z forum, if i didn't do it, someone would of. lol

The STIs are nice, and i respect the engineering, but it pretty much stops there. Sure with the right driver they could prob beat a stock Z, but if catching looks is just as important to you then the Z is the way to go. Esp now that you are more grown up.

The other poster is right though. Most don't ever actually make the purchase when they say the do. Prove us wrong!!

BTW LOVE the hardtop S!!!! Looks WAY cleaner!!

haha thanks for setting me straight in my ways. And the one thing the STi has that the Z doesnt isnt the larger interior. And I hope to prove everyone wrong . Don't get me wrong I will miss the hardtopped S, but I am just not happy with it anymore.

In the sense that it has a back seat, yes.

I will say though, i'm 6'5" and i can sit in my Z and lock my legs out in front of me, and i have a good 6" above my head. Never had an issue with being to big for the car. DEFINATLY bigger then the S. I couldn't even get both my legs into the S i tried to get into!! lol

Most sports cars have two seats and a smallish interior. They arent' ment for cross county cruising with the kids!!

yeah as I said my old roomate had a Z and I am very satisfied with the available space for seating. The S just got way too narrow for me seeing as I plumped up

In my opinion, it may just depend on your age.
I seem to lean towards the Z being for the older crowd
that graduated from the Accord, Altima, type of car.
I kind of think of the Evo, and Sti in that general area.
I have driven both cars, and while they are powerful,
they just seemed a little too distant for me. I probably would
have been happy with one of those in my earlier days.
I started with a 97 Civic, 03 Accord, 04 Accord V6, to a 06 base Z, to a
08 Nismo Z. I had other cars before the 97 Civic, but not really worth
mentioning. The 97 Civic was my first brand new car that I bought.
Next step would probably be in the GTR, Porsche level for me.

Ya I definitely graduated from the civic etc. genre of vehicles. The STi I wanted purely for factory boost/performance, but I do agree with everyone on the fact that the majority of Sti drivers are punk *** kids.

I am 80% sure I want a Z over a G35. The Z interior is nicer IMO, I just like the tri-gauge cluster. And believe me I have had plenty of time to review them - I drove about 15 G35 sedans, 10-12 G35 coupes, and 8 Z's today at the car wash.

That's a tough one too. I love both!! In fact many times i though of trading my Z in for a G coupe! The key factor for me was also the interior of the Z. The G just didn't feel sporty enough for me on the inside.

BUT i do LOVE the G seats!!!!!!

If you do some searching, there are a pretty good amout of people here that went from STI to Z, and visa-versa. PM them they may be able to help you out more then the straight up Z guys can.

Give the guy a break!! They were clean looking cars. Have you ever had a car you were proud of other then your? This is a car enthusiast forum, the Z isn't the only car in existance because you happen to own one!

How about you do some more posting and less lurking. Maybe you can post some usefull info as well that we all can benefit from!

Lets remember where that antenna came from that's in your signature befrore you start ragging of people for posting pics of their other cars!!

I was not ragging on the op. This is a forum for the Z enthusiast and there are a lot of "Trolls" that come on here posting on the new owner section and post pics of other cars like "Hondas" and start worthless threads. If he's happy posting pics of his previous cars that’s all good. But the op doesn’t even have a Z. This thread should go in general discussion or off topic section of the forum. And maybe you should go through my previous threads and post because I have posted some useful info. The way I see it is if you don’t even own a Z and start up a thread by posting up pics of Hondas they have the proper forum for Honda Lovers. If you think that I'm wrong then I stand corrected. I did not intend to offend you or the op

P.S.
I have owned other cars in the past besides the 2 Z's that I own now. But, I don’t think that the others are interested unless it was a car that was as nice as a Z or even nicer. Being this is a Z enthusiast forum.

I tell ya what. You show me a mint condition 1986 dodge shadow, and i'll be interested in it. If purely for the fact that you took such good care of it over all the years. That's what being a car enthusiast is all about!

thanks for all the posts everyone. And I posted this thread because as soon as I buy a Z of course I will be posting pictures in it. I am pretty much dead set on buying the Z now though, over the STi. Listening to youtube exhaust clips of the Nismo exhaust with HFC's is definitely an alternative to the STi exhaust note.

Another good reason about the Z over the STi is that I am NEVER the DD when my friends and I go uptown

I do agree that it should go in general discussion, now that I think of it though. I have been a moderator on superhonda.com, and been on forums for like 9 years now (since I was 14), so I know about proper forum etiquette. I also know how to ignore negative comments, so yeah I understand that you weren't just being a dick TT.

If a mod wants to move this post go for it.
