Default New nyc z owner

Well, I finally got my 350z. It's a 2007 Grand Touring. I guess a little background on me in the Z world is that I've owned two 300ZXTT's in the past (90 & 91). When I moved to NYC in 2006 I sold my 91TT as I was told by everyone not to take it with me, and that I wouldn't need it if I lived in Manhattan. Well three years later I still had the Z itch and a few months ago moved out to Jersey City and do a lot of driving now (in my wifes car). For a while I've been debating getting another Z32 or getting the 350. Well I decided that I didn't want to deal with sending my car miles away to get fixed and live with all of the various mechanical intricies of that car. I also wanted a car that could be a daily driver even though I'll only use the car three days a week.

Well I found a good deal in Chicago, so I flew out there this past Saturday morming and drove it back to NY the same day. I made the trip in about 10hours taking i-80 all the way. I got a really good chance to get a feel for the car on those nice Ohio roads. The car has a lot more torgue than I expected, and really I'm happy with getting the 350z. I am also glad that I ended up getting the manual over the Auto. I've rented 350's a few times in 2006 from Hertz and in my opinion the Auto's weren't this fun to drive. Maybe it's the HR as well.

The dealership I went to was Hawkinson Nissan. These guys had great service. I flew into the Midway Airport and they drove the Z out and picked me up in it, letting me drive it on the 30 minutes back to the dealership. I was so excited that I forgot to take my planned photo shoot at the dealership, so all I managed to snap are two pictures from my camera phone at a drive through.

I got the car for about $25K OTD ($23+ for the actual car)but they charged me for my TAG and registration, and I also got the GAP insurance and bumper to bumber 100k warranty, so I ended paying more than I had planned.

The weather has been gloomy in NYC since I've been back as well, so I hope to take some better pictures later on. I'm surprised how nice the Ray's wheels look on the Z. After seeing them in person, I'm pretty sure I won't want aftermarket wheels for a long while. I also am re-thinking lowering the car after driving through Manhattan yesterday. Funny enough I saw a guy in a silver z that had to be dropped about two inches. It looked like he was on 18's. The car needed a camber kit, but I could just imagine the ride for him, as I was breaking my neck to avoid potholes. I never realized how terrible these NYC streets really are until now. However, driving it on the West Side HWY was great.

Thanks man. Any other local meets or clubs? I looked in the groups section and the NYC Club has like 5 members? I would be interested in doing a caravan to Fontana, NC this year if others are going.

Hey, congrats on the purchase. Seems as if all the NYC Z guys are in LI. Guess that's an excuse to drive out there. It makes sense though, as I had no fun driving through the city yesterday. I decided to drive in for fun to try and get the new car feeling out of my system (I keep looking out the window at it).

I swear the only good Manhattan roads are the west side Hwy & FDR. I don't see how people drive their nice cars to work everyday. They must go through a lot of struts. And parking was $23 for 12 hours. But hey I guess that's what makes this NY.

Bit of a different beast to a 300zx, especially the 300zx TT. Enjoying the NA instant kick, rather than the spooling turbos?

Yes it is a difference beast; exactly. Especially because both my TT's had stock turbo's; so my comparisson is not like others that come from High HP Z32's.

But I guess the immediate throttle response is better for NYC as I seem to do a lot more quick accelerating and lane bobbing and weaving(especially on the Westside HWY), as opposed to the highspeed highway cruising that I was used to in South Florida.

Even when I got a one piece drive shaft, and aftermarket tension rods for for the 300z, it still didn't feel as stable as the 350 fealt going really fast (I was able to open it up on the way back from Chicago).

I must admit though, the Brembo brakes don't feel as impressive as I thought they would have. Maybe I need different pads, fluid or steel lines? And I feel like I had more leg room in the 300z (I'm 6'3).

I would be interested in TT'ing the z a few years down the road as more options become available and my wife has her next car. I'm sure a 350z with a nice TT set-up has to be the best of both worlds.
