Smile A question from a n00b

Ok, so I don't own a Z as of yet, but I've been pretty dead set for around 2 years that one will be my next vehicle, because I've test driven alot of vehicles, and the Z just feels the best, besides I'm already a Nissan pilot . I own a 2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V, and the reason I bring that up is that, because I bought the vehicle, I did literally NO research on the QR25de, or how riddled with problems the motor is, and I don't want to make that mistake again. My question is simply: What kind of problems to you guys run into with the VQ35?

The motor is solid, unless you start tinkering with FI. The transmission on earlier years is crap, but if still under manufacture warranty is replaced free courtesy of Nissan; revision 9 transmission is good though. You need to research manufacturer service bulletins.

The whole car is junk, I'd pick up a honda. I hear those things are torque monsters.

For real though, I'll just give you some of the problems I've had.

Transmission replaced under warranty
window motor replaced twice under warranty
Blower motor replaced under warranty

Then some of the other things I've had replaced are do to my FI but if and when you get the Z you'll learn about that.

Good luck

I have an 03 with 60k miles and so far I only had the window motor problem.
It was easily fixed with the DIY guide here.

Besides that I had no issues with the transmission or motor.
I believe 06 had the oil consumption issue.
Seems like most of the common issues was fixed in 07, 08.

The spec V is fun and all, I just have a very love/hate relationship with it, it's been alot of trouble, had a motor and tranny replaced already, and some other minor things like cam sensors and that kind of thing, it can run trains on hondas though >:O

You'll love the 350z. I have an 03 Z and have no issue with 2 yrs of ownership. I think it's a hit and miss thing with the 03 Z issues. The HR is as good as advertise. If you have the grip, then you should go with an 07-08 Z.

Off topic, but I was looking to get a V-Spec before getting the 06 Altima. That is one clean looking ride you had there.

Default Future Z Owner.

I love 350Z's. Its been one of my dream cars since their debut. Body lines are very nice. But, as someone who loves driving fast, on-road and on track...i plan on putting a twin turbo kit on it. I have seen via the kits website that it is capable of putting down 850 wheel horsepower. I also want to do alot of other work, like port and polish the heads, and the intake manifold to allow air to flow better. I also am planning on getting a beefier, more intense set of cams. And of course, all the necessities of having a turbocharged car, turbo timer, standalone fuel management system, boost controller, and i want to do some Carbon fiber to lighten the ride a lil. And, of course suspension work too. So my main questions are, Is the compression ratio low enough stock to pump 20-23 pounds of boost into her or do i have to lower the compression ratio? Another question: Can the stock 6-Speed manual trans and the factory rear end take all that power? All im really looking for right now is just some feedback on if the route i want to take is over the top, or if it is possible without too much other sorts of engine modifications.

hey buddy.. well first of all, that tranny needs some beef up as well, im actually lookin at the aps twin turbo system and ive been to several shops in jacksonville and the first thing they told was to upgrade my tranny... compression wise.. u might wanna go down to 8.5-1 9 at the most... and dont forget about your pistons, valves, retainers, SUSPENSION.... well hell im sure you know about all this.. but yeah... i would build my bottom end up first... just ask around in here... and good luck
