Z and Winter
Hello, been lurking around for a while now, reading and learning as best I can about how to care for my new 2005 base Z.
I know there are a bazillion posts about this and I've tried to read through most of them. But I have a few questions about my Z and getting it through a Northeast Ohio Winter in one piece.
I'm taking the stock tires off and replacing them with some Goodyear F1 All Seasons. I can't afford plain winter tires right now, so all seasons is the best I can really do. I also bought some undercoating to protect against the salt, but than read that it was probably useless to use on the Z and possibly detrimental. Went ahead and changed the oil and the coolant is seems good. Is there anything else I can really do besides a good wax and sealant for the paint?
I also bought a jeep cherokee intending to use that as a winter vehicle, but the woman has decided that she is going to be driving that since her car is dying/dead. I'll take over the jeep for the worst of the snow/ice, but in general it looks as though the Z will see me through the winter
.
After winter than it'll be time to start doing some small modifications. I'm hoping to get a Aerosync bumper and to repaint my hood to get rid of all the rock dings. Of course I'll get a clearbra on the hood/bumper to make sure they don't come back.

Welcome and congratulations. Winter hints: If the windows are frozen and will not go down do not force them. You will easily burn the motor.
The rear hatch can hit you on the head and send you to the hospital.

Don't attempt to drive your Z on more than 1/2 inch of snow - it simply will not work with out dedicated snow tires all around. Even All Seasons will just barely get you by. On those bad days, call Enterprise or some other cheap car rental place - $20-30 a day is better than wrecking your Z. Or take the bus or whatever. We get a lot less snow in Columbus - I park mine maybe 5 days per year until they get the snow plowed and then stick to the main streets as much as possible. Where in NE Ohio you at?
Ahhh, it is officialy winter now! The "how do i/can i drive my Z in the snow" threads have begun!!!
Soon to follow are the "I was only doing 15MPH in a straight line, when i some how spun out on black ice, flipped my car three times, took out a light pole, and ended up in some poor sap's living room" threads.

Snow tires FTW, I have driven my Z for the last 3 years down here in Cincy. Just added the Nismo diff this year, I am kind of excited for the snow. This is my daily driver so it has seen all types of weather. I say drive the damn thing, thats what it was meant for. But if you not comfortable driving in the snow, like PerfZ said, find some other transportation .
