Finally in the Z family
I always wanted a 300zx TT for years but finally got convinced the maintenance costs would eat my wallet alive so I picked up this 07 Z with only 16k miles around December. Came with some crazy 20" rims from the dealer (trying to sell in classifieds!) which I switched out for a set of 03-05 wheels bought from a member here on these forums. Absolutely cannot get traction at WOT from 1st - 2nd anymore compared to the previously fatter wheels. Probably why they don't put 17x8's on the HRs
Congrats!!
It seemed like you got traction with the 20" wheels because they were so heavy your car was having such a hard time turning them, let alone putting down enough to break them loose. (Anything over 18" FTL performance wise)
Even with the factory 18s you are gonna break loose bone stock. My 2003, bone stock with 68,000 miles will easily break the OEM 18s loose.
I suggest an upgrade to the tires when you get some 18s, or to the 17s if you decide to keep 'em. You'll still loose traction, but probably not nearly as bad as with crappy high treadware tires.
Remember, it's better to have traction in the corners, then in a straight line. Anyone can do a burnout, and it hardly ever causes death or damage, but sliding into a ditch going through a curve is no fun for anyone!!
