Hello fellow 350z owners! I was recently lucky enough to come across a 03 350z touring model(daytona blue) with 61k miles on it. And picked it up last Friday. I love the feel of it, except I've had some minor problems(to be expected of an 8 year old car. The seller claimed to have replaced the OEM brakes, clutch, timing belt, and tranny(which were all ********) 10k miles ago. Took it in to a Nissan dealership for a 120 dollar full inspection. They found nothing wrong except the brakes and tranny which we knew. We got it back and found out OURSELVES that the right window doesn't go down or up, the air filter was crushed and completely dirty. So what the hell was the point of the inspection? Lol. Already replaced the brakes(would shake when slowing down), and bought a new air filter. The trans grinds from 2nd to 3rd, which can be prevented if you idle in neutral for little under a second before shifting. Do you guys think we should replace it with an all new clutch? Or get it fixed? Besides that there is minor body damage(the front bumper mostly, may just replace entire bumper) , and a decent sized rust spot right under the right door handle(idk how) which we need to take care of quickly.

Besides all that I'm in love with the car. It's really fun to drive but I definitely feel like I need to take care of all the fixes before modding anything.

What are your guys thoughts? Thanke a lot and I'm happy to join you as a 350z owner! (pics will be up soon)

I can't seem to edit my post on my phone... So trans* instead of clutch. And the right window it's the motor. Should cleaning it fix the problem?

Welcome! That clutch sound isn't too desirable. That can easily escalate to a bad transmission blowout.

I agree with Nis, how much did you pay for this car?

Thanks!

I'm hoping the window will be fixed with the motor cleaning. Hopefully don't have to spend 120 for a new motor.

Probably gonna fix the trans. Though the problem could potentially come back. It'll be over $1000 cheaper tho haha.

I'm only actually worried about the rust spot. Gotta get that checked out. I can get it checked out by a guy I know and get that estimate. Don't want it getting worse.

About $450 spent on it so far. I think the price I got it for is worth it tho. Even if I repaired every small thing.

With the front bumper, it's just some paint. Would you recommend getting an all new OEM bumper and put a clear bra on it or repaint the current and do the same?

Pics soon!

Those do not sound like minor problems for 8 yeear old car.Sounds like problems from
poor or no maitenance. My O3 Touring has over 74k miles.Runs perfect.Looks and drives new. What did you pay for this potential money pit?

So u paid 9500...u have already dished out 450, that rust problem is going to cost u another 300-500, the front end which u are going to replace is about 600, oh and don't forget that transmission that will prolly need to be replaced...you're looking at minimum 13k for an abused and poorly taken care of car...doesnt seem wise to me, thats just my 2 cents tho

Nothing I can do about it now. Though I must say I still am quite happy with my purchase. It rides smooth, I don't seem to have any misalignment anywhere, the tires aren't fading quickly. And one happy note about the trans, I had read about the upgraded trans and had planned to install the newer model either way. Now it just gives me some motivation. Trust me, I put everything into account and I appreciate the concern!

Thanks for the welcome guys, and as soon as I get time to actually sit down in front of a computer I'll have em up!

Congrats on the car! You & I sound like were in close to the same boat.
Last summer I bought a salvage Daytona blue touring & I'm finally ready to tear down & rebuild.
sounds like I have a bit of a longer road ahead of me - but hopefully By the time you're satisfied with yours you got to learn something & it feels more like your car than something abused by the person before you
