Default Fairlady Z33 Driven (Again)

Hello everyone...I'm fairly new to the Nissan family, but have been lurking around for the past few months. I recently picked up a 2003 350Z (Enthusiast) from a former member here (Jimster716).

I've been looking for a track car, and he was looking to get rid of his, so it worked out pretty well. The Fairlady was set up for SCCA Solo (B) Street Prepared class, so it came with quite a few goodies, including:
  • Work Meister S-1 3-piece wheels Gloss Black (19X9.5 ET24 front and 19X10.5
  • ET23 rear)
  • Prototype Tein MonoFlex monotube coilovers with EDFC (Electronic Damping Force Controller)
  • SCCA-spec Chromoly rollcage - Custom Sized
  • Cusco swaybars
  • Nismo Limited Slip Differential - R-Tune (1.5)
  • Sparco Pro2000 race bucket seat (Driver's only)
  • Wilwood 6 Piston front big brake kit w/ 13" slotted rotors
  • Earl's Braided Stainless Steel Brake Lines
  • Jim Wolf Technology Popcharger Intake
  • HKS True Dual Hi-Power Exhaust (replica)
  • Nismo Power-Steering Oil Cooler Kit
  • Setrab 22 Row Engine Oil Cooler Kit
  • JDM OEM smoke reflectors
  • JDM Fairlady Z emblem
  • Nismo Shift ****

The reason he was willing to part with the Fairlady, was because she was having engine problems. I decided to replace the long block because the mechanics were unable to assess the problem without a full tear down of the motor. Here is a list of the modifications I performed while the Fairlady was under the knife:

  • Brand new VQ35DE
  • Accusump Oil Accumulator (did I mention this is the 3rd motor?)
  • Replaced Rear Bearing (driver's side)
  • Optima Redtop Battery
  • Motordyne Engineering 5/16 Copper Iso Thermal Intake Spacer
  • Stillen Underdrive Pulleys
  • DC Ceramic Headers
  • Berk Technology Test Pipes
  • Stillen Y-Pipe
  • Greddy Ti-C Single Exhaust
  • Rear Bumper Tuck
  • Aasco Motorsports Lightweight Flywheel
  • Fontana Nissan Racing Clutch Assembly
  • Wilwood Slotted Disk Rotors up front (GT curved vane)
  • Wilwood BP-20 Brake Pads up front
  • Racing Brake Slotted Disk Rotors in rear (non-Brembo)
  • Racing Brake RB ET300 Brake Pads in rear (non-Brembo)
  • Nismo Extended Wheel Studs
  • Enkei RPF-1's (18X9.5 ET15 Square Setup)
  • Hankook R-S3's (275/35/18)
  • LED Bulbs (Interior, Headlight, and License Plate)
  • Replaced Trunk Cylinder Lifts (trunk kept falling on my head)
  • Auto Meter 5690 Elite Tachometer (stock tach gets stuck at 2,500 RPM)
  • Auto Meter 9117 Tachometer Adapter
  • Auto Tecknic Tow Hook (Front)
  • Replaced all fluids with Motul

In addition to the above, I have been stripping off more weight (i.e. sound deadening, plastic covers, spot-welded metal pieces, etc.). Once I get the new wheels and tires mounted, I am going to get the alignment redone, and hopefully a corner balance as well.

I am going to debut the Fairlady at Fontana Speedway on the 14th of January, and can't wait to see what her limits are.

I'll share more, including pix, as this project progresses.

Cheers,

Erik

Awesome list of items you have going there. It's always nice to hear of more Zs hitting the AutoX / Track. I personally am going to run C-Stock SCCA AutoX this year fulltime.

Had a great time at Auto Club Speedway today! My times progressively got better with each run. Finally ended the day with 2:01. Special thanks to NissanRaceShop.com, Fontana Nissan, CityTireOnline, Church Automotive, and Oakos Automotive!
