Default new kid on the block

hi! id like to introduce myself. i just picked up my zed on tuesday. its a 2005 35th anniversary edition black on black/tan. it has almost 69k mi on it now, about 400 of them being with me. i LOVE it.

hopefully the pics worked

there are a few very minor issues with the body that i will be addressing asap. also, the interior has a few minor scratches on the trim pieces that i will try to clean up with a marker or plastidip.
the wheels are the only real issue i have with it. i love the colour of them right now, the matt gray, but the reason they are like this is that some one sand blasted them. no problem with that, but they never repainted them, so im afraid of them corroding; hopefully i can figure something out for that, as well.
anyhow, first plans for the car are weathertech all weather mats and plastidip for emblems/handles/possibly wheels, today. next weekend im hoping to find a decent tint guy here in toronto, going with 25 or 30%, not too sure yet.

Welcome!
The wheels are aluminum.Don't think there will be a corrosion
problem.Could be road salt ate away the finish. Please don't Plastidip!
If you are planning on keeping the stock wheels, look into getting
them powder coated.

I've always wondered why some parts of the world call them 350Zed's. Anyone care to elaborate?

In the UK and most of the British Commonwealth, the "Z" in the alphabet is pronounced "zed" They don't say W X Y Z...........they say W X Y Zed.

Welcome to the forum. Happy detailing. Being black needs lots of tlc to keep looking at it's best.

Lol, for the same reason some of us spell "colour", not "color.

thanks for the welcome, guys.
normally id leave the wheels plain aluminium, but i plan on commiting homicide on this thing and murdering everything on the exterior except for the calipers. the plastidip is just an easy way for me to do it as i am TERRIBLE with paint and powdercoating is far out of my price range for now, plus the RF is bent. i wouldnt doubt that salt had something to do with the finish coming off of the wheels, but there are places on the machined surface of the face of the wheel where the machining marks have been smoothed over with what looks to be sandblasting marks left behind i do kind of like the matt gray of the wheels, but they dont match anything on the car. i picked up 4 cans of plastidip, so im sure i can lay on a nice thick coat and easily peel it if time comes for powder.
i ordered the weathertech mats yesterday, picked up the plastidip and also grabbed some black tinting film for the rear lights while i was at the parts shop.
hopefully tint will come in the next 2 weeks, but i have to find a good recommendation first.
also, my cats are rattling a little bit at low rpm (1100-1800), so i think the first performance mod is going to be a set of berks with antifoulers.

about "zed" im a huge fan of zed over zee, plus im canadian. sounds much better when saying a lot of things, ie. zed oh six vs zee oh six, zed are one vs zee are one.

im already hating the upkeep of black. it was a little bit of a rush buy for the car. originally i had planned on guying one in the spring, preferably blue, but a buyer came for my old car(1998 camry gold on tan, but in incredible condition, considering the 265000km/164500mi) and he offered exactly what i wanted out of the car, so i took it and jumped on this!

i plastidipped the front and rear badging today, wasnt perfect as i absolutely BLOW with a spray can, but im happy with the result. i was going to apply the tinting film to the tail lights today, but i only bought a 2x2ft square, thinking that i could fit them in there. turns out the tails on the zed are about 2'4ish long, so that wont happen until i make another trip up to nextmod to buy another 2x2ft

does anyone know of a plug and play harness for the bose stereo that uses RCAs? i dont like the idea of using the PAC module because it runs off of amplified signals which will distort the sound some, especially with the low quality that aftermarket HUs put out.

If you want plastidip to come out really smooth, then you need to keep the can pretty close to what your spraying. This is because when you have it far, the rubber actually dries midair, causing the final product to feel like sandpaper. When you have it close though, the rubber is still wet and all the particles bond together before drying, which makes it smooth. Wait at least an hour before peeling it.

ya, i noticed that they do that when you spray from a distance... i have a nice, almost "smoothed over golf ball" kind of texture on my pieces from holding about 6-9 inches from the surfaces i was spraying. tommow is fender badging, door handles and hopefully wheels! it rained today and i could only pull about 4ft of the car under shelter at a time, so i didnt get as much done as i hoped for, but its turkeyday here so i have tomorrow to help me out! ill post pics of everything when im done
ps. i may be able to work with the 2x2ft of tinting, ill give it a shot as well, tomorrow!

i blacked out everything that was silver/gray on the car, ill post a pic or 2, tomorrow, dont have time to upload at the moment. i REALLY like the wheels in matt black! maybe when i can afford it, ill get them repaired and powdercoated matt black
the door handles and badges turned out even better than i had hoped for! i love how tough the car looks with all of the matt black accents cant wait to tint out the tail lights though, that, i think, will really set it off, then maybe some spacers and eventually coils, but thats a long time down the road, as of yet.
