Default Driving/shifting tips

So I initially posted this in the wrong thread... I'm a new owner and new to this site lol

I traded my automatic prelude for a manual 350 back in June (my first manual car!) and I think I'm still not that great at driving it so any tips would help.

I have good days and bad days with it, but I'm consistently having trouble shifting from first to second gear smoothly. Sometimes I get it bang on but most of the time it jerks a little bit. I usually shift at 2500rpm for each gear. I find if I shift to second around 2000rpm it's usually pretty smooth but I don't do it that often, only when I'm stuck in traffic or something.

I'm also maybe a bit too short for this car haha so I find sometimes my seat positioning helps

let the clutch out slower, the reason it jerks is because youre letting it out too fast most likely.

Yep, you're letting out the clutch too fast and your revs aren't matched.

Why are you shifting so low anyways? I get better fuel miles shifting around 3000.

My Z seems to like it when I fly through gears at higher rpms and gets pissed when I try to drive smooth. I drive 50/50. 50% Brian O'conner style being careful to not blow the welds on the intake for gears 1-3. 50% granny shifting and not double clutching like I should from gears 4-65. Be careful though, I remember I fried my piston rings and blew my floor panel out. A mad scientist had to take apart the block to replace the special onionized piston rings I fried that the Z's come with.

Can't tell if 65 was a typo or making fun of hollywood transmissions.

You don't need to double clutch unless you are driving a non-syncromesh transmission. Some trucks might need double clutching but the Z certainly doesn't.

Not at all, why would you need to double clutch? Here is an Wikepedia article about double clutching. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_clutch

Obviously I did miss the joke. I have no idea what what the Fast and Furious quote is to be perfectly honest.

Go back to 2001 and watch the movie titled, The Fast and the Furious.

Then watch it 1000 more times and memorize it word for word.

Then you will be one of us.
