Default Just upgraded to 350z!

Hi everyone. I just purchased a 2004 350z Enthusiast for $8500 with only 83k miles. Upgraded from a 1990 300zx. Having some issues already getting it to pass inspection because of the check engine light putting out camshaft codes and bad headlights. I'm still happy with my purchase as after everything is fixed, it will still be a decent deal.

Wanting to buy 06+ headlights and put on the 06 Touring V2 wheels I have on it.

Thanks guys. Shops are saying that it isn't the camshaft position sensor. Said they called Nissan and they said that it had something to do with stretched timing chain..so they want to charge me around $1500 to replace that and tensioners.

id get the codes from the ECU and see what they say. cam/crank position sensors seem to be common issues, not just on 350s but other Nissans as well. i know the 4 cylinder Altimas from 02 on up had a horrible time with them (my girl has an 03). im just waiting on mine to go LOL if the codes say cam sensors, then replace both, and the crank sensor for good measure, and that should take care of it.

stretched timing chain...LOL i really doubt thats the problem. someone probably just wants your money.

^^^ my thoughts exactly. "Well, you were low on brake fluid, so we replaced the master cylinder, all the lines, calipers, and rotors"

Alright. I will see about getting all of the sensors replaced since that is the cheaper possible fix. Also now having problems with my headlights, lol. Sometimes they both work and sometimes the driver low beam is out. Any thoughts?

Looks like your car came with the nismo v2 kit, nice. However, that agressive of a kit needs agressive wheels so get that pocketbook ready! Nice find though, 83k miles for 8k, not bad.

Thanks man. I'm happy with it. I actually already have a set of wheels that I like. They are the Touring V2 wheels from 06+ I believe. Going to powder coat them a dark color. Haven't decided the exact color though.

Just fixed the headlights. Was a loose connection with a bulb that was going bad. Glad I found the stock HID bulbs in the compartment behind the seat. lol.

I wouldn't actually consider it an "upgrade"

Welcome to the forum. Hope it's smooth sailing once you get those issues sorted. Crank and cam sensors common issues.

I'd say more crafty, with $$ in front of their eyes.

Thanks BRONZEE. I found out that the previous owner did not keep up with maintenance too well. Lots of sludge in the oil. Did an engine flush and 4 oil changes, now my oil is clean but I'm still getting the crank and cam sensor codes. Tested the sensors themselves and they all work. So I'm guessing I really am going to have to go through with the timing fix. Anyone around the Charlotte, NC area know a good trusted shop that I can take it to so I can get a second opinion on the price of it all?
