Upgraded to a Z!
I found a good deal on a 2007 touring model Z and couldn't resist. It has 120,000 miles but runs strong. She has an insane amount of rock chips on the front bumper and windshield. So much that the lights at night streak. I already buffed out the headlights due to fading and painted the brakes due to rust. Supposedly this car was bought in Hawaii o_O The rims had so much curb rash on them it wasn't even funny. So I figured instead of painting them black like every other person around I'd go with teal :P So some minor things to fix before I start modding but nothing serious. Coming from a 2009 Eclipse it is a completely different world. I'm ready to start modding but its going to have to wait a couple of months. I look forward to checking out all the Z's and browsing the vast information on this site!

Welcome and congrats on your new Z. Sounds like you've got a good project on your hands, but going from FWD to a powerful RWD sportscar takes some driving skills. Consider going to a track day at Summit Point Raceway, or other local track to learn how to drive it properly.
how many miles on 09 eclipse, gt or 4cyl?
The Z is a different animal, at 120k miles u should consider doing a major tuneup
plugs, belts, transmission/differential fluids, grease every join, check suspension for wear, make sure the brakes are good,
check brake/clutch/ps fluids.
If you do all I just listed she will take you to 300k miles depending on driving style.

RWD on the Eclipse would have been nice! Taking it to a track would be a good idea, I might have to do that sometime soon. Haha that Eclipse is clean, one of the favorites on the forums. But to each his own.

The Eclipse had 71k miles, 4cyl. Thanks for the advice! The carfax said the belts were replaced and the rotors were resurfaced and the pads replaced. All of the fluids seem clean. I'm still gonna have them flushed in the near future. Plugs are next on my list. And I didn't see anything on the forums about the water pump or timing chain. I know with the Eclipse that if you didn't change those at 90k then the engine is done for.
Keep an eye on engine oil and all fluids and listen for any odd noises and you will be good.
Another common issue is on the manual transmission Z's (07-08) the CSC (clutch slave cylinder) isn't a robust unit, and if yours goes (not sure if u got manual?) - replace it with an upgraded unit from Zspeed.
Any info on engine coolant? Check to see when it was flushed, if it's the original stuff you might want to have it flushed.
Overall it's a very fun car - treat it with respect/ take care of it and the car will reciprocate and last you a long time.
I would HIGHLY recommend reading this entire thread from start to finish (it will take you a while, but it's well worth it)

Timing chain in the vq35hr is maintenance free, honestly it's a pretty bulletproof engine - a lot of people rag on these cars so your mileage will vary.
