Default Getting a yak on a Z

Got a 07z, had to figure out how to get a kayak on this thing..

Used 2 straps, one going around the trunk lid just to have something to hook up to. This way it pulls up on that strap instead of pushing down on the hatch glass which could break it under the pressure you need to make this thing safe.

The other strap actually goes through cuts in the kayak I put in the lip where a skirt would attach. Just heated up a putty knife and put some slots. I actually leave that strap it it while I kayak. It will mount/dismount easier and faster than any mounting system Ive used so far

Its very secure once tight. I tried pulling it off, reached 60mph and even did a power slide and it didn't budge at all. I will be taking it on the interstate about 200 miles to Richmond soon and I'm sure it will work out fine.

I've ordered some vinyl wrap to cut out a small piece for the trunk and roof I can stick on while transporting and avoid scratches to the paint.

Probably better just to stick it out of the trunk

I was able to do that with an integra I had by pushing the front passenger seat forward but not happening with the Z. Here is an image of the first strap

Vinyl car wrap is only about 100 microns thick and a 400 mile round trip on the interstate will surly rub through it. Best to stack several plies of vinyl one on top of the other.

I picked up one of these for my bikes not long ago:

Not my car, that's the pic from the mfgr's website.... which doesn't exist any more to my knowledge.

Picked it up from a guy on CL along with a Yak tray + frame mount. It appears strong enough to mount a kayak.

Haven't used it..... have a hitch rack on my Highlander. Hahahahaha.

You plan on adding a trailer hitch too for your pop up camper?
