Question New Owner - Autocross Advice

Hi All,

New here. Just picked up my 03 Enthusiast (manual, hardtop) about a week ago. Meet with some of my friends who are also into cars and got invited to an autocross event here in a few weeks. I am a beginner at autox though i am familiar with what it is and how its operated. I am, however, a passable to relatively low experienced driver when it comes to this sort of thing. I would like to go to get some seat time and get some general driving experience. I do NOT plan on being the fastest guy there and driving within my limits. Here's my question.

What should i do to get my car prepped for the event? It is bone stock with some pretty bad tires on (treadwear is fine they just arent performance tires). Overall condition of the car is great. Had a experienced friend I trust shake the car down as he is a much better driver than I am at this point with no issues. I'm not sure i'll have the time or money to prep the car to how i would like it (new wheels, tires, pads, performance break fluid and oil) to make the event. I plan on refreshing all my important fluids regardless of the event.

Would it be a terrible idea to put proper fluids in the car and show up to the event with meh tires and stock pads? I can probably swing tires and pad and have them arrive in time, I just dont know if ill be able to use them, as well as proper break fluid, to their potential making all that a waste of money at this point.

Should I try and outfit the car as best I can, or skip the event, build some more driver mod, and try for the next one when i can properly outfit my car and have a bit more confidence?

Show up and drive. Then after that, show up and drive. If it’s something you enjoy, show up and drive and dont skip event cause your waiting for some part to make you faster to arrive.

Welcome... I plan on autocrossing too. I would say just go and get some seat time.

If you have time, try doing a four wheel brake flush with some high-temp DOT3 or 4 fluid (ATE super gold 200 is cheap and available).
