Default Considering buying a 2008 350z GT Have some questions…

So Im considering purchasing a 2008 350z GT 6MT. I am not super familiar with the vq platform but I know a little bit. The car has around 60,000 miles and is completely unmodified it seems to be a unicorn (with the orange interior as well!). The one problem I have is that the car has a CEL showing code P0011. I know this has something to do with the VVT. The owner says that it is a bad VVT solenoid. What are the odds that it could be the oil gallery gasket because if it is that I probably wont buy the car. I test drove the car and cold start oil pressure is around 70 psi and warm idle oil pressure is around 30-35. The car pulls all the way thru to redline like it should. And is there anything else I should know before considering the purchase?

Welcome- and you will get the same advice I give anyone about buying a used car. Take it to a local Nissan tech and PAY them to provide a full mechanical assessment of any car you're seriously interested in. Yes, you can expect to pay $200-300 for such a service, but it's the only way to know what you can expect to pay AFTER you purchase such a car. Asking those of us behind a keyboard to hazard a guess about this Z isn't a realistic way to buy a 150year old car.

^^^ Agree with the inspection advice. Even with low miles, the car is 14 years old. (My 06 runs like new. If cared for these cars age very well.) Gl!

Yes, every time I buy 150 year old cars, I take them to my shop, Dinosaur Car Garage. Sorry David, couldn’t resist. 😈

But in all seriousness, a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) is really the only way to know what you’re getting into, unless you have a lift and some familiarity with all aspects of the car.

S’far as the gallery gaskets, the numbers don’t seem to indicate any issues but be prepared to do them in the future. Not definite but HR/VHR do have the issue moreso than earlier engines.

Good luck. 60k mile Z should keep for a ling time as jhc said.

Hah- ya got another zinger in there, Mic! As far as "Dinosaur Car Garage" is concerned, I run a branch of it out here in the mountains and plains. Now, get off my lawn!
