Default Will wheel spacers affect performance?

Hey guys, sorry for another wheel spacer question. I know wheel spacers are primarily for getting the car to look wider and have a stockier stance. But will it affect performance in anyway?? Im just taking a guess here, but im thinking performance might slightly increase just becuz your wheels are spaced out wider than before.

Thoughts?

yea, it will allow a wider stance. but just make sure you buy hubcentric spacers to eliminate wobble, and make sure your new studs are on tight!

You are also changing the geometry of your suspension.

the fact that you are asking if its good or bad... more likely means its bad.

Well no, ColoradoClark stated that wheel spacers also change the geometry of your suspension. So i guess i want to know how do wheel spacers affect the geometry of the suspension, and is this end result a good thing or a bad thing?

Im looking for details.

Spacers effect suspension geometry and handling. Cant tell you if it will be improved or degraded. Just different.

If you want a better handling 350Z go to HPDE and autocross. No mods take the place of an experienced driver.

I think Nismo knows plenty and pretty much got the Nismo Z right as is.... Why mess with it?

You have moved the center of the wheel away for the mounting surface. You have also moved it farther away from the strut-spring housing.

Agree.

If you are trying to “tweak” the suspension with a $100 mod (spacers) forget it. If you are a suspension tuner with 10 years is racing experience, go for it. Other than that you are simply adding a worthless ghetto mod.

K cool. Thanks. Ya i guess that's what i wanted to know, that once the center of the wheel is moved away from the strut/spring housing, how will it affect the rideability. But from what the responses have been, i guess the moral here is: why mess with a good thing !

I guess purely based on looks, it would have been great if the wheels were about half inch wider... just to give it a more wider stance.

Nonetheless, the Nismo looks like a sick car, and supposedly handles damn good.

Thanks for the replies.

What I meant was you are changing the geometry of the suspension and you don't know what kind of effect that will have on handling -- and what kind of extra stress you are putting on your suspension.

To put it another way: I like the way my Nismo handles, so I'm not going to make any changes to my suspension for cosmetic reasons.

That's up there with the worst logic I've ever heard. Nissan has to abide by federal and international regulations, demand of the popular consumer (which is, unfortunately not the car enthusiast) and most importantly, cost. There are more than a few things that can be fixed up for sometimes very little cost.

Ok, so enlighten us Nismo fans then. What would you do to a Nismo Z at "very little cost" to help improve this car?
