Default Nismo ECM reflash thoughts...

I have been researching reflashing my '07 Nismo to gain a few extra HP with the Nismo CAI and to release the "hidden" HP from the engine through the ECM peddle/throttle factory settings.

I spoke with www.TechnoSquareInc.com about the '07 and they are now reflashing the ECMs. You can check out their website for more info. The cost for drive-in service is $550 and I hope that it will be worth it.

I work very close to their location, so I will drop off the Z while the reflash is being done.

They mentioned that the reflash will not touch the maintenance portion of the ECM, so it will not be detectable by the Nissan shops. I would recommend that you leave the redline to the factory setting as this could be a way that the techs tell if the ECM has been "adjusted".

Any additional thoughts?

I'm assuming you've seen this thread. https://my350z.com/forum/vq35hr/320191-07-hr-reflash-completed.html

It seems like it produces solid power gains. The only thing is that if you're going to do any other exhaust mods, you should do so prior to the reflash.

I dropped off my Z this morning with the following requests:
1) keep the rev limiter at 7500 - to prevent "detection" by techs
2) set the speed regulator (governor) at 185 - due to the speed rating of the tires that came with the car... i like these tires!
3) capture before and after dyno results with the Nismo CAI

The shop uses a SuperFlow Dyno that was calibrated last week, so I hope that it will yield accurate results.

I am expecting HP and Torque gains throughout the band based on conversations with the shop. I am curious to see how the CAI will impact the gains/losses.

I am particularly excited about the throttle setting changes... I cannot wait to feel the "lurch forward feeling" today on my way home!

Did technosquare advise against the intakes. From that thread, it seems that the stock intake was best for power gains, but if you're going to keep the Nismo intakes, you might as well have them tune it with the intake on the car.

It's better to be safe than sorry, but I don't think the increased rev limiter would affect warranty. Not sure how they would find out anyhow, unless they revved the crap out of your car.

Haven't been following things to closely, but it seems the increased rev limit doesn't add more power, but simply delays the fuel cutoff. Some say that fuel begins to cutoff before redline is reached.

My dyno results!!!!

Date: 4/10/2008
Car Specs: 2007 Nismo 350z with the Nismo Dual CAI.
Dyno: SuperFlow WinDyn Dyno V2.7, calibrated on 4/2/2008

*NOTE the numbers below are wheel numbers, not top-side numbers
Governor settings=185 (changed from 155)
Tach settings=7500 (was not changed)

Before HP=280 RPM=6900 TORQUE=242 RPM=2700
After HP=292 (+12) RPM=6900 TORQUE=256 (+14) RPM=2500

The Throttle changes was the change I noticed most on my drive home last night. I feel like it really makes a difference when it is punched esp. at higher speeds.

Also, for some reason that I cannot explain... it is easier to shift smoothly...

I will not speak for TechnoSquare, but I verified that the stock and Nismo aftermarket intake pipes are NOT the same diameter which seems to be throwing off the MAF sensor that is tuned for the stock setup.

I will gain about 7+ more HP if I switch back to the stock intake (according to the dyno results).

Not adjusting the Rev Limiter will reduce a little bit of HP, but it is simply not worth it until people can prove that a 100k mile HR engine ages just as well as one that has not been "red lined" past the factory setting... imo

^ Man that would be awesome if you made 300whp with the stock intakes.
