Default I Put the Peddal to the Metal and ....

When I floor the throttle in 1st or 2nd gear, the rpm's seem to blip, and then spool up. Almost as if the clutch is slipping or like when a turbo is building up.

The clutch is fully engaged when this happens. My foot isnt even on the clutch peddal.

For example, I will be rolling at 5 mph, and then if I slam the throttle, the engine takes a second to respond then Boom a surge of power. Same this happens in both first and second gear.

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks

I had this happen in my 1997 pathfinder 5speed - then the clutch died a few weeks later. Maybe your clutch is slipping...

TCS is off and the car only has 6000 miles on it. I don't really do any jackrabbit starts, so I can imagine the clutch would be crapping the bed already.

When you say drive by wire, you mean it has to go through a process that takes that split second instead of the gas pedal being directly linked to the engine or where ever it is supposed to be linked to?

this happened to me also, but only in first gear. Wether you have the TC on or off if you launch from 3000rpm's or less it always does that. try flooring it from 3500rpm's but only 1/2 ways in untill you get good traction then all the way.

Lol yep, done that. You would think they would put in a better spot

The best thing about the Z is when you get to about 5000 rpms in 2nd gear, your grip tightens and your just like FU#K, you get a video game vision where the side view out the mirrors gets blurry and you just get a tunnel vision in front of you and the car just screams. Especially on the windy 50 mph roads that you can hit safely hit about 80 on. 45 mph to 65 in 2nd comes fast.

That is why the blip in 1st and sometimes 2nd gear is weird. Your like 306 hp eh...., then your like o o o here it comes. its that good.

Grounding wires seem to be cheapest way to improve throttle response.

You could also try the Sprintbooster. Not very common on the Z as it has only recently been introduced, but very popular on BMW forums. It eliminates the inherent lag from the drive by wire system, so you get instant throttle response when you ask for it.
