DO NOT pay more than 34K out the door for a brand new Nismo.
If they do not have it, then go somewhere else.
DO NOT negotiate with a dealership that does not have the car.
Go and deal directly with the dealership that has the car there.
STOP talking to salesmen...deal only with the fleet manager,
or internet sales manager.

Thumbs up

One way you can do it is like this. If you have already been pre approved for a certain amount from your bank say 40K, then have them cut you a check that you can sign over to the dealership for a certain amount, say 34k. So now you go to the dealership with a check made out for 34k. That shows you have the funds to make this happen now. If they want to make a deal then it will work and you will be fine, if not then walk and try some other place. Just make sure you make the check out for what you want to pay OTD and stick to it. This pretty much takes a lot of the haggling out of the purchase for you. This works a lot.

I paid $35 back in March for 2008 PPW. You need to figure out what your trade is worth.

Tips please, thanks!
Do you want the car or not? Not wanting to drive an hour? Are you kidding me? How much are you willing to spend? Is the savings worth an hours drive or more? Something makes me think you are not very serious about the whole thing, or there is something you are not telling us.

You are asking questions to group of Z owners and enthusiasts who worked deals, drove distances, ordered and waited, and every other journey imaginable to obtain our Z's.

My story is I drove 86 miles in Jan 2002 to pre-order my 350Z at msrp, when my local dealerships were wanting 5-10K over msrp. I had a check ready for them on delivery.

Take the advice posted above, or just go 2 miles down the road and pay more. Thats all there is to it.

This was my story.....(not Z related but it worked well).

I was in the market for a new truck coming from a Mazda 626 in 04. I had low miles on my car and I'm **** about my vehicles so they were more receptive to me trying to sell them on paying my car off and taking it as a trade. I had been there earlier that day looking at the F-150 SuperCrew that I wanted after I went to the other local dealerships looking at what they could offer me. I told them earlier that I would be looking elsewhere.

When I came back to make a deal they tried to sit me down and show me numbers that were almost twice my house payment. Not good on their part since I told them so and asked her why she was wasting my time since I already had financing. Pay no attention to them asking you what payment you want. Get your own financing before you buy. This is what makes them motivated to try and make you a better offer on financing should you so choose to let them.

When it came time for me to make an offer on the truck that I wanted (the sticker was 36500) I offered them 30 out the door. I was already financed for 35K. All I had to do is write them the check. This is one of the most helpful things to have with you. The saleswoman went to the sales manager "to pitch the deal to him". This is basically a waiting game with them to see how long you will hold out before you either cave or walk. I did neither.

Now it's almost going on 8PM (I had been there since 4:30)and I gave them a story about how I was going on a cruise to Mexico in the morning and would be there tomorrow regardless of the vehicle I drove down there. I really was going to Mexico so the story was easy to sell to them. Feel free to use this story if you like. It worked pretty well for me. I also brought my wife with me for moral support since dealerships love to try and talk women out of money. I was finally getting tired of the games that they were trying to play and started playing my own with them.

The next time the saleswomen left to "talk to someone" I had my wife go and sit in the car. When the lady came back she asked where my wife had gone and I told her and then also informed her that she had 10 minutes and then I was walking. I waited till she was watching me and then started the timer on my wrist watch and saw her jaw drop.

5 minutes left she comes back asking me if I wanted some coffee. I told her no and that she had 5 minutes left. She ran off again.

At 2 minutes I got my stuff and walked out to the car talking to my wife through the window.

At 1 minute left I pulled my keys out and started spinning them around my finger pretending not to watch them watching me. Then I started to open the door. They all came running out after me trying to explain to me that they couldn't sell my car for yada yada yada amount of money and I called BS on them and told them that they could make X amount of money off selling my car tomorrow at what it was worth at retail (find this number out of you are trading a vehicle in). It also helps to name-drop the other dealerships in the area and what they are willing to do for your business at this point. I told them I would be going to the other one with my money since they didn't want it. Then finally they caved in.

They ended up paying the remaining amount on my current loan off. Giving me better financing than what I had and I bought my new truck for 7K less than what they were trying to sell it to me for. When I got back from Mexico I ended up going in there to get my truck detailed and they kept saying how they hadn't had someone give them such a hard time in over a couple of years. I actually felt pretty bad so I bought the sales chick some lunch. When I drove back to the house in my new truck I didn't feel bad at all.

My own way of sticking it to "the man".

a question: Does out the door price include financing?

For example, if i got a vehicle for $34.5k OTD and down payment of $6k. That would equal $28.5K being financed at 6.5%. Would my monthly payments be $395.83 or $421.56 for 72 months?

I paid $33,940 for my '07 Nismo right off the show room floor last February before taxes/license. You can do better.

If you want to make buying a car even easier in this environment just tell them you do not need financing and would prefer to pay cash!!!!

I should have walked around Miami beach with a hat on my head that that said cash buyer on it. All the damn deals right now are just unworldly!!!!

I would seriously not finance a car for 72 months if I were you. In 2-3 years the thing will be worth about 15K and you will still owe 25+K.

About 3 months ago, I went in with a blank check and offered 34k otd for a nagaro red one. Then I got the speech about talking to the sales manager. I said you have 15 min. They came back and basically said no. Then I said no and left. Never even got a call back The car is still sitting there today. They should have took my offer because if I went back today, I'd probably only offer 31k otd. The longer they let is sit there, the more they are going to lose on it.
