I just bought #0046 from '07
Well, I bought #0046 this weekend and I have to say I'm in a whole lot of love today. I have a long, highway type, commute and at 5:30 this morning there was just me and a lot of open Houston freeway. I love the way this car carves, I've never had a sweeter handling car in my life.
Just thought I'd take a second to introduce my self. Nice place y'all got here.

Wow! Thanks for the warm welcome. Let me see if I can't answer a few questions.
No, sadly, it isn't just the pics. I chewed them up the first night I had the car on a curb exiting 290 at Senate. Entered the corner too fast (anyone in H-town familiar with that U-turn will know what I mean, steep dip, sharp left, fun ride) and rubbed the curb coming out trying to compensate with the brakes.
It certainly seems that Houston has it's fair share, or so I'm gathering. No, I got it from Baker Jackson on 290. I have all kinds of mod plans but I want to map out an actual upgrade path instead of just buying stuff to bolt on. I'm honestly considering a TT setup in the next couple of years (part of the reason I chose the car) .... we'll see.
So, it would seem. Yeah, I'm a bit of a gun nut but, cars are slowly becoming more and more interesting to me. Oh yes, mods, they will be done.
Yeah, this is the main reason I didn't cry too loud when I rubbed 'em up.
I've had rims repaired on my SLK and they came out looking like they did from the factory and it was only like 250 for a pair so, it wasn't a horrible ordeal. Those rims were gouged so bad I'm sure they had to add metal to get 'em right (don't let friends drive your SLK, this one really wasn't me). Also the mechanic I use gives me loaners for free when I drop off my car so, being down for a few days while the work is done isn't a hassle either.
My question to you guys is, I have a guy who does a pretty good job on Mercedes repairs/maintenance but, I'm not sure how this car is going to differ. I'm a little too jaded to trust a mechanic to tell me the truth when it comes to what he's good at.
Like he's going to look at me and say "nope, I don't normally work on those kinds of cars and I don't plan on making you my guinea pig. I'm sorry, I have to turn down your money."
So, what do you guys think? Keep taking it to my guy who treats me really well and does good work (and stands behind it) or start looking for a new guy to match my new car? If it's the latter can I get some recommendations on the NW side of Houston?
Whew! Now, that was a post. Thanks again for the welcome and encouragement gang. I think I'll be very happy here.

You should look for a Nissan/VQ mechanic. IMO our cars have a number
of "nuances" which set them apart from other vehicles. Surely someone
knows somebody capable, and hopefully reasonable, close to you.
This would also be a good opportunity to "invest" in some re-30s or te-37s
for your car.....

I'm curious though what benefit I would get from getting re-30 or te-37 wheels for the car when the ones I currently have are perfectly serviceable and could all be good looking again for a fraction of the cost of just one replacement wheel in the price range I've seen the 30s and 37s going for?
Or were you merely suggesting I use the damage to the current wheels as an opportunity (read: excuse) to get a new set? Cause that would be just plain devious. Brilliant but, devious.
I bought it used with 11,600 miles on it. Unfortunately, I intend to put ~20,000 miles a year on it myself. But, I'm given to understand it's an extraordinarily well engineered car (from a reliability stand point and with out FI of course) so I don't think having it as my DD will be bad.
Though tires for it are a bit pricier than the the little yoko's my SLK used to wear but, whatever. If I was too concerned about all of that I could have bought the Sentra instead.

welcome and congrats! was it new or used?
