Default I was lucky

few days ago I starting having a really light "whistle" in the rear when the car was cold... fearing was a bearing I planned a service to the car before going for a road trip.. well was a bearing. today, suddenly, coming back from the grocery store... GROAN GROAN GROAN.. I have a face like.. WTF! I was only few hundreds of feet from the garage.. so I get there.. I grab the jack, and I see the rear left wheel has a "weird" camber... not enough.. as I start to lift the car the wheel just come loose. completely loose.. kept together only by the caliper.
well tomorrow I'll have the car towed to the stealership and I hope they don't rape me too much (my car is modified suspension and diff, so I don't think the warranty will kick in)
the lucky part... that happened in front of my place at 15mph if not less and not on a 600 miles road trip at 80mph.

never happen on ANY of my previous car to lose a bearing so quick...
never happen without the "steel grinding" noise and, more important... NEVER the wheel did come loose.

let's put that in this way. it's a STUPID failure... really dangerous. but happened in one of the luckiest condition EVER. what **** me off.. I changed tires saturday morning.. and from then to the failure I did 5 miles.. TOTAL.
I want to go and kick somebody's a$$... or the monkey at discount tires because it's not possible the bearing was completely firm.. or, even worst.. if the wheel was completely firm w/o any play... to some idiot in nissan that put a bearing that can have this kind of catastrophic failure w/o any advice.

I don't know... the lead tech at the dealership hasn't seen a bearing so bad in a while (so he said) and shipped it to nissan.
they did the replacement under warranty even if my drivetrain is modified (cusco lsd)
and suspension modified.
