Default So... What Happens After the Accident?

Unfortunitly I have seen that quite a few Nismo's have bitten the dust lately... Some beyond repair.

What happens to those of you who have no car left. Will the insurance companies give you money to get a new Nismo or at least a used one with the same or less miles?

I was thinking about this last night, and I would be furious if someone damaged my car and I was not able to get one in the same condition or better before the accident. Espeically as it seems in many of the cases where it was completly someone elses fault for hitting you.

Not to mention the cars are limited as is and there is so much tuning associated with this car, and if there is frame damage, it can't be welded in the same way it came from the factory. Not to mention the depreciation on our cars are horrendus, but it doesn't mean you can easily go pick one up, especially a Nismo for that depreciated amount. I feel like the insurance company would nail you in that aspect. Plus there are so many people including Nissan Dealers who do not beleive me when I tell them the car is stock from the factory. I can't imagine dealing with someone from the insurance agency who is insistant it is a grand touring because they do not have "Nismo" in their system.

Any ideas what would happen in this scenerio, where your car gets totaled with 15,000 miles on it because someone else ran a red light and hit you?

Depends on your insurance and there's. Most of the time you'll be lucky to get what you owe on the car.

Thats friggen rediculous. Can you go after them in court to claim your car is built a certian way and you will only accept a replacement?

Expect to get the blue book value and nothing more. It's possible to get more, but unlikely. Also, you can often offer to buy the wrecked car from the insurance company and try to make some money parting it out.

Well the insurance co will give you what they believe the car is worth and then the rest, if you have paid off the car, is gone and you lost some $$$.
But if you still owe money on the car, and the insurance co doesn't give you the amount you owe which is usually the case, gap insurance will cover the rest (that is if you bought gap insurance when you first got the car)

Gap insurance is a must, that was like the first thing I did after I drove the car off the lot. I bought it through my credit union, the dealerships are ripoffs.

I don't know what I would do in this situation. I mean for us that bought the car in 2007 or early 2008 most of us paid 35-38K then TT&L and extras, like 3M tape on top of that which comes out to about 40K. Now we are hearing they are going for around 25K in less than a year!

Will they do a replacement deal? For example my car has about 13,xxx miles on it. If I can find another Nismo with the same miles for sale will they give me a check to buy that car. I hate KBB when it comes to sports cars, because they can't be valuated like your average Camry. (edit: I guess they will, I didn't finish reading the post above this)

There is so much more that goes into it. Most people who buy 350Z's, M3's, S2000's, STI, Evo etc... are a different breed of drivers. No one takes care of our cars like we do, and if they are up for sale with low mileage we immidiatly become skeptical, because it could have been some yuppy or bimbo who thought the car was "cute" and never changed the oil or hit one to many potholes.

Knock on wood we all get to drive our cars into the ground I guess
