Default What kind of Coilovers are you guys running for AutoX and Track

I am having a hard time picking the one to go w/. No one really has anything bad to say about any of them. I have narrowed it down to Stance AL+pro or Tein Monoflex. What do you guys think. If there is somthing way better let me know. I want to use the car mainly for AutoX and Track, but i will be driving it on the street from time to time.

Thanks

hypermax III sport here.
good to begin with. good car balance with a stiff diff in the rear...
BUT.. if I'll do it again, I'll go for koni truechoice double adjustable. (is "a little" more expensive, but I think could make the difference)

Zeal function X coilovers these are rated up there with the DG5. The DG5s are roughly $5k (aka breaking the bank), the zeal functions are about $3k.

You can get either of these coilovers in 12k front and 10k rear spring rates.

It feels like the valving is not quick enough. The car doesn't get settled fast. when the back end kicks out u have to slow down for the suspension to settle. The suspension should do that for you w/ some compensation from the wheel. i want to be able to adjust the rebound and dampening.

^Ah I see, that makes sense. It seems you know what your talking about. I was skeptical because I believed a lot of people got coilovers just to add another mod to their list, and I didn't see the point of it until what you just discribed.

Are you looking for street comfort as well as track performance?

I have the HKS Hypermax III's. Ataru074 has the sport version. Which is stiffer.

I don't have any complaints with the HKS setup. I need to tweak it alittle more. The car has yet to see a track. But it gets thrown down some agressive mountain roads.

Plan to take it in and have the wheel weight balanced, camber and toe tweaked while its there to be Tuned. The car needs it.

I've just heard things about both. I've heard that the DG5s are better but the Zeals are rated up there with them. I'm planning on getting the Zeal x coilovers after summer.

I plan on getting the Tanabe Sustec Pro SEVEN with the TEAS system. It can be set to adjust at specific speed intervals plus the convenience of the control switches from the driver's seat is a big plus.

you know which is the bad part?
that what feels incredibly crisp on the road is going to be "sloppy" on the track...
the biggest limitation that I found in hypermax sport is that the bounce and rebound rate feels "good" but not "right"...
I still feel that have too much bounce control against the rebound

don't get me wrong... you can go damn fast with those suspension without having the "stock nismo feeling" of the car disconnected from the tarmac when you push to the limit....
I can't even go close to the new limit without leaving a massive skidmark in my pants... but... I still don't have the "right" feeling that I had on a full race setup.

I do like the KW's, for the money i belive they're a great buy and work excllent on the track. Its the only set of coilovers i've had on my car so I can't really compare them to any other set out there.

first, set yourself a total budget

as Ataru correctly mentioned (he does quite a bit of track work) the setup one runs on the street is a far cry from what one tends to run on the track - I don't care how aggresive you think you drive it on the street, or how much you attack the mountain roads, the entire dynamics are vastly different. It takes quite alot of dialing in to get a car that truly will do double duty with little to no adjustments

Given your uses, neither of your possible choices would even be on my list of worthy considerations. Which would be? Again, depends on your budget (don't forget the ancillary parts needed to truly get it setup properly), your tire selection, and your actual skill level in terms of suspension adjustments

Z1 What would you get if you you were me. I am open to anything, even going w/ diffrent tires if that would really help. my budget on the suspension would be 1-2k. i know that i would also need front and rear camb kits.

Thanks

at $2k with front/rear camber set, I would do the following

Hotchkis sways, Koni yellows, Tein S Techs or Tanabe GF210's, and a set of endlinks. You'll get far better overall ride quality and handling vs a cheap set of coilovers, it will come in under budget, which will let you put some $ aside for alignment/install or a set of proper tires
