Default Cam sensor failed yesterday

I was driving down the freeway and the car started sputtering then died. I coasted onto an on ramp and it would only start back up when I floored the gas. When it did run the rpms were all over the place and it sounded like a subie engine with headers. Got a tow truck to take me to Nissan where they said it was a broken cam sensor.

Thank teh lawd for warranties.

That's Nissan's quality workmanship, attention to detail, and reliability for you.

Happened to me over a year ago. $50 and 15 minutes of my own time and I was up and running.

Got a call from the tech service. It wasn't the sensors. They don't know what it is.

Thats always a great vote of confidence! When a dealer technician calls up with no clue!
They should at least provide a Dealer loaner car for thier stupidity.. Hopefully someone there gets this sorted out for you A-Sap....

Sounds more like a crank sensor than a cam sensor. The car will generally run with a bad cam sensor, just will be hard to start and may throw a misfire from time to time. When i worked at Nissan we had Maxima's with bad crank sensors all the time. Would take forever to start if they even would start and then they would barely run. Hope they figure it out for you soon!

thank you, I will pass it along. Car would start but only after pumping the gas and when it started you HAD to give it gas to keep it running.

I could get it to run but it sounded like chit. And RPM's were very erratic.

I agree. Crank Sensor. Friends TT Z32 did the same thing and we found the crank sensor wire came loose. His even died on the highway.
