I'd be much happier with it if I left it the hell alone. I used a 1200 grit sand paper then a 2000 grit then buffed it with a rotary buffer. The biggest problem is that the scratches were so deep that I had to sand it down way too much. The lettering is nearly flush now. And to top it all off since the top layer is gone it scratches really easily.

It looks like I have some funky fake Nismo badge that is flimsy and scratched.
