Default Anyone Switch Their Potenzas for PS2's?

I have about 23K miles on my tires so its just about time to replace them.

I am in between just getting a new set of Potenzas or paying a little more and getting PS2's

Has anyone here with a Nismo made the switch to PS2's? Do you like them over the Potenzas? Are they worth the extra $50 per tire?

I was also wondering if they effect the handling of the Nismo. My father has an E92 M3 with PS2s and I find the potenzas tend to slide a little easier/ more control if the tail happens to pop out a little. The PS2s tend to dig in more, but when they let go they really let go.

I don't know if that is a car issue or tire issue which is why I posted this in the Nismo section instead of the tire section. I'm particularly curious if the Nismo in particular handles differently with Potenzas compared to PS2s in your experience

Thanks

I'm running PS2s... quieter, grippier in dry/wet and major traction improvement in wet is what I can tell you. I didn't get on my potenzas that much as I only had them on the car for 5kish and the previous owner beat them down to 50% in roughly 6k lmao... nail through the rear sidewall at 11600 made me switch out the set for wider PS2s...

I think they are much better, I like the way they take corners better actually... and I get it on it pretty good from time to time and it takes a decent amount to lose traction through shifts/corners... they're pretty predictable when they go out, maybe the weight distrubution/suspension and god knows what makes it feel different in the M3, but I definitely think the increased price was justified.

I really need to state they are 1000x better in the rain, again... RE050 were a deathtrap in the few rainstorms I was caught in... had to merge quickly through an amber once and threw my *** out halfway across the intersection going 25km/h...

PS2 is also a wider tire, so expect more grip/traction based on that alone as well.

bottom line: I am quite pleased, didn't regret at all.

^Thanks I'm sold

I've had some sketchy moments in the rain with my Potenza's as well.

Where did you get your tires from? I was thinking of tire rack, but because of the shipping and installation costs I am going to have to pay on top of the price I might just be better off getting them at the dealer or maybe even Costco!

Anyone get their tires from Costco? They sell PS2s, but would you trust them to put them on your car?

Thumbs up

Also Try Bridgestone Potenza RE-11. I just picked up a set from tirerack, 285.35.19 rear/ 245.40.18.

I only have about 700 miles on them but they glue the car to the road, I don't drive in the rain so I can't tell you how they are on wet roads. But I'm still breaking them in and I took a nice off ramp at about 90mph and they hugged the road like glue.

Ran PS2's a couple of times on a regular Z and I can say:
They grip, and grip and grip...kicking up all sorts of road debris. Superb tires.

But honestly, a big waste if your Z is daily driven since they never last long.

I push my car every once in a while so I would like to have the best gripping tire, but I don't think I can go with the REO 11s because the weather in New England is too unpredictable.

I think the PS2's probably have the same life expectancy as the stock Potenzas.

Anyone know?

The stocks are 140 rated in which is about 20K miles. The PS2 are 220 so 30K maybe. The RE-11 are 180 so about 25K. Also if drive like demon and your hard off the line your going to kill your rears fast so it's up to you how long your tires last.

I got 18600K out of my stock set. They grip very well all year long for me.

I agree, these are great tires as I have them on my nismo. I am running 285/35 rear and 265/40 front. Only concern I have is that after about 4k miles on them they are showing some slight wear on all 4 tires, and the alignment is in perfect spec ( I am **** about this). Idk how much life I will get out of these tires but I will probably switch over to some Hankooks or Toyos after this set.

How spirited is your driving? wear after 4k means you should be chirping and fishtailing left right and center lol.

I was thinking of trying the RE-11's next... but i may try something 'cheaper' ala the hankooks just to see what the 'big difference' is. I've heard great things about both, proxies arn't 'cheap' per say.

I have the PS2 since I purchased my NISMO from the US. 245/35R19 front and 275/35R19 rear.... no regrets!!! Can feel much more stability and grip in the corners....and feel much more secure than the OEs.

I have about 12k now on my NISMO and I switch my OEs and my GT-M from time to time depending on where I am going and what I am doing.

Anyways, I can only say, IMO, the Michelin PS2 are the BEST of the BEST~~~

Definitely get the RE-11s over the PS2s. I have 265 RE-11 all around on the Nismo and have been quite pleased. Have had PS2s on other cars and think they're okay, but don't love them like some people do.

Don't worry about the treadwear ratings, but from my experience, the high performing RE-11s have longer lasting treadwear than the PS2s.

The RE-11's are actually cheaper than the PS2's. Plus Bridgestone is offering a $100 Amex gift card or rebate witht hem. Maybe I will give them a shot.

Are they going to be a lot different than the PS2's in the rain/crappy weather?

Keep me posted on what ever tire you get. I need to replace mine this summer as well. I was kind of set on PS2's, but the RE-11's sound worth a consideration. Do you keep stock size or do you plan to go a size up?
I am leaning towards kenny's setup with 275/35/19 rear tires. Just wonder how this will effect TCS if at all.

The 140 and 180 ratings have to be taken with a grain of salt since it’s not standardized between manufactures. I have had the RE-11's and you will get about 11k out of them. The RE-050a about 18-20k and the same goes for the PS2's. Depending on how hard you are the rubber.

Yea I definitely don't want to replace them every 11,000 miles. I think I am going to go with the PS2's because I think they provide a little more saftey in the rain and extreamly light snow, compared to the RE 11s
