So I found this strand of a spider web....I got a little mad at myself and proceeded to drive the **** out of my car.

Something like this

VVVVVVVVVVVVVV
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XgiMbdJ7mUY?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XgiMbdJ7mUY?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

Nismo 380 RS-C 3.8VQ engine - 400hp -1260kg = fighting weight

at the spider web.

I'm looking at exhaust options now and wanted to know how you and others deal with safety checks on Oahu, being the exhaust is much louder than stock? I think recon is gone for exhausts, but what about the db levels? Use silencer or no one cares?

I was lookin at the Greddy Ti-C or the Nismo...yeah, two totally different setups.

Sorry for the small hijak. Shoulda dubbed over the Nurburg vid with your voice, haha.

Well I said **** Hawaii and it's ridiculous recon requirements long time ago. I can't get the hawaiian hook up so I could never pass it. I've learned to drive like a grandma where it counts...other than that the cops really don't care. I think is a case of don't get caught really...

^hey rod, i didn't kno u were having prob's with recon. As for musubi, my exhaust setup was recorded at the local SCCA auto-x from the front about 20-30 ft away and measured 107 db. But so far, I've gone thru the safety check's twice and no problem for me. Pay my $20 or so and drive off for registration. But so far all my mods on my Z do not require recon, amazingly enough, unless i'm missing sumthing or i have a hookup that i don't kno about....

I got a hookup aswell for the safety check, but technically I need the recon check. I however can't pass it due to my car's hieght/suspenion. One of the checks is suspenion travel = FAIL, another is ride hieght = DOUBLE FAIL!

nismofreak1208, That's some good info. Thanks! Local Nissan dealer tells me they don't really look at the exhaust when performing the safety check. They don't check the db's or if it's excessively loud. I'm guessing both of you take it to a private shop?

King, Yeah, unfortunately i've heard about the suspension check for recon. I've never had mods to warrant recon, but I always thought that was something that was checked out during the safety check. Good to have the hook up for that!

What is "recon"? Being Military, my definition doesn't seem right

Recon is some gay statute enforced only on the island of oahu (as far as i kno) in which any modification to a vehicle other than how it was built from the factory requires a "reconstruction" permit in which they test for things like if ur car sits too low, exhausts that are just RIDICOUSLY loud, etc etc. Funny thing is, i got pulled over in my wife's gti which only had a chip, filter, downpipe, rims, and resonator cutout and the cop said that i had to recon her car. But never have i had a cop say anything about my Z which is just digustingly obvious that it would require recon....maybe i'll gain more attention with it when i slap the huge wing and hks coils on.
