Default Anybody else's radio skip over bumps?

Every now and then when I hit something jarring on the road, the CD I'm listening to will skip. Is that normal?

I know the suspension is stiff, but that's pretty fuking pathetic that a CD skips in a $40k car. I don't expect stellar audio quality, but it'd be nice if my music at least played uninterrupted.

Yes, the stock head unit on these cars is garbage.

If you get the opportunity take a CD player apart and look at the optical reader. I think you will figure it out.

K, glad it's not just mine.

I'm fairly familiar with how a CD player works, but they've had anti-skip technology for years...even the most basic cars (Corolla, Civic) have it. I think it's inexcusable if this is the norm for Z's.

I'd definitely love something like the D3, but I hate to have to part with $1k+ just so my CD will play normally. Sat radio, nav & ipod hookup would definitely be nice though.

I have the Avic 700 in my 03 Z. CD, Nav, Ipod connect, and Bluetooth phone. You can find one for around 500. With the laws getting tougher on cell phones the Avic would be a great addition.

I can't really make a suggestion for the CD's you already have, but if you are burning a new CD, make sure you burn them at a slow speed, like 2x-4x.. If you have a Plextor Drive, you can even adjust the lens power [never tried personally]. I always burn my CD's at 4x, and i have never encounter this skipping issue, to date.. I drive in Philadelphia a lot, and let me say how bad the roads are..

Thanks! I'll look into this.

Yeah, at the very least, I'm going to get something like the USA Spec ipod aux input.

Thanks for the tip man! I'll definitely make sure to check the settings next time I burn a CD...that's primarily what I play.

I personally like TDK, or Memorex CD's.. I haven't had any issues with them.. I would recommend burn one test disc at 2x, and give it a try for couple days.. Do you burn the music files as a data or audio?

03 bose here, so I don't know if my opinion counts, but mine skips more in the cold weather than in the summer. Bumps also have an effect, but I've noticed it to be temperature related. Good tip on the burn speed, I'll have to try that.

When I still had the stock system, I think I remember it skipping over some bumps, which I agree is pathetic. Even more pathetic is the sound quality from the stock system. So far, it's the worst I've heard in any car I've been in. Since then I've changed out the HU, mids, tweeters, and installed the Basslink sub in the cubby where the Bose typically goes. One of the best things I've done to the car. Consider changing out the system if you're that fed up with the skipping.
