Hey guys, a bad storm came in and Poseidon's fury flooded my street. I had to go through it to get home after parking my car safely away from the flooded section I pressed the lock button on the key chain. The Z's horn audio was gone and I only heard a weird clicking sound and a faint weak horn. What to do? Do you think anything else might have gotten screwed up from the water?

 

The horn sounds should come back when the water dries out I had that happen too. And as long as your intake didn't suck up water to the engine, you should be fine. All in all, you should wait and see....

If you were able to drive it still then it should be fine. Wait for it to dry out and see what happens. If it sucked up water through the intake, the faint horn sound will be the least of your problems. Good luck and let us know what happens!

Hydro-lock should be your main concern, hope you dont have it. That's what killed my last car.

 

Like everyone else said, if you didn't suck up water to the intake, you should be fine. They make a bypass for those cai intakes to keep up from sucking up water, which in a flood it won't matter. Either way let the car dry out for at least a day.

To check for water you could pull one of the spark plugs out. Mayne even drain/change the oil and filter. Possibly even open up the exhaust to allow water to drain out. Good luck br0

 

If your car was still moving after the fact, you didn't hydrolock, so no worries there. Just inspect the intake filters/filter box. If there is no water in there, forget about it. If there is water, drain the oil and check. But once again, if you were still driving, you should be OK. Your horns got water in them. They should return to normal once they dry out.

 

If the sound doesnt come back you will need horns. Since you drove your car through flooded waters I would replace your engine oil and filter, tranmission fluid changed, and your rear diff fluid replaced. Thats what usually calls for flooded cars that come through the shop where I work.

Transmissions and differentials are almost always vented to the outside air. The vent is usually on the top so anything getting in is not an issue, and any residual moisture will boil off once the unit warms up, much like motor oil. If you submerge it though, it can fill with water, and rust internal parts very quickly.

Are you guys serious? do we not know how a engine works?? when a engine "hydrolocks", its cuz theres water in the piston chamber during the compression stroke so all the valves are closed and water doesnt compress, its stuck...WHY would you drain the oil?? easy, you DONT, it wont get past the pistons otherwise it wouldnt hydrolock. And he said he drove it home and parked it fine so obvously its not and theres no real worry or concern. Yes i would still check the intake boxes n such just cuz. The only good easy way to "fix" a hydrolocked engine without takin it apart is to pull a plug out and suck the water out with a tube or hose or stick a rag down thru the hole and absorb it, ive had the unfortunate pleasure of doin this many times on many friends cars. Dont worry dude, if u drove it afterwards, ur fine, if anything happened it would have happened before u got thru the water.
