concered about engine longevity
From what I have read so far, it sounds like I can go up to a 100 shot with no problems. But what I am wondering is, how will this effect the motor in the long run? I'm planning on keeping this car for a very long time, and want the motor to last. My question is, how high of a shot can I go before I start to shorten the life of the motor, say if I roughly go through a bottle a month on average? Or will ANY amount of N20 shorten its life? I know this may be hard to answer considering the 350Z hasn't been out that long, but I am just wondering.

well i had nitrous for like 5 months and just had my motor and tranny replaced, but i did spray alot(100 shot). Bro if you plan on keeping your car a VERY long time just dont use it alot or just dont do at all. save your money and build a basic short block and turbo. thats just my opinion

The way Nitrous is speced confuses many and they don't realize the torque output increases as the rpms drop!
A 100HP jet at 6,000 is 87 lb/ft but if you halve the rpm it doubles the torque output to 175 lb/ft at 3,000 rpm because the Nitrous flow rate is constant per second so twice as much gets into a cylinder.
This lower rpm pressure is what exceeds the reserve of the engine and tranny.
Due to higher pressures [BMEP] the redline should be lowered [say to 6,000] while running Nitrous and a pulsed solenoid system used to limit low rpm power increases.

yes a 100 shot is about 170 ft pounds of tq at 3000 rpms, thats insane, i would never recommend hitting it under 3000 rpms or you could instantly shatter lots of vital parts.
wait till i direct port a 200 shot at of the hole on my new setup!! hehehe
i havent heard many horror stories with nitrous on our cars and would llike to know what happened...

My opinion, don't do it. Yeah nitrous will give you a lot of bang for you buck but there are too many things to go wrong. User error is normally the biggest reason for nitrous problems but that is because it's easy to screw up when using it. I'll admit it, I had my stupid moment. I was driving down 64 east in VA Beach and had a ZEX system installed. The ZEX uses a throttle sensor (when activated) to sense when you mash the pedal to the floor and thats when it starts spraying. Well I was messing around with some guy on the highway and forgot to deactivate the system. Well after that I was just cruising around in fifth gear and mashed it to get around some guy yet I forgot that I still had my system activated and started spraying around 2500 RPM. Very bad idea to say the least. The nitrous ended up exploding in the intake, blew the intake off the throttle body, bent the butterfly piece in the throttle body, destroyed the MAF sensor, and caused my car to shut off and come to quite the embarassing halt on the side of the road. Needless to say this was definitely my fault for not deactivating the ZEX system but like I said before user erorr is very simple in a nitrous injected car.

I will agree that it can be dangerous but at the same time can be very safe if used properly and with the right equipment. It is definatly the best thing I have added!
