Default big shots and progressive controllers

back in the day people used to spray pretty big shots on little 2.0L SE-R's using progressive controllers (stock block). a well known guy sprayed 160 on stock bottom end. seems like the VQ should be capable of at least 175 progressive, if people are using straight 150shots successfully??

here is a link http://sr20forum.com/showthread.php?t=59689

so basically, whatever the VQ will handle torque wise at 3300rpm, it can handle 2X at 6600??

Audible, your thoughts??

with the right amount of timing taken out, you could spray a 250 shot on stock bottom end in your upper gears. nitrous has soooo much tq down low, thats where you will break a lot of things.

i would take my chances on 150 shot down low and an extra hundred shot in 4th and 5th gear on stock motor if done properly, plus by the time you get to 4th gear on your first 150 shot, you will lose bottle pressure and it wont be as potent as when you first launched.

i am building a high compression NA motor plus a lot of spray for my car, it will be done really soon...

so you would need to run dual stage to maintain bottle pressure for the setup you described? what would be needed for this ***** out stock block setup to work properly? UTEC for timing obviously

can't wait to see what you're doing with the N/A n20 build, thats my eventual route, but for now limited to stock block.

I agree with the engine at 6600 rpms being able to handle more power safely than at 3300 rpms since it's able to empty out the cylinder twice as often.

at 6600 rpms, the engine will actually have a harder time trying to fill the cylinder with air than at 3300 rpms since there's half as much time to do it in.

IMO turbos and nitrous, where lots of power is coming in at low rpms are really really hard on the engine. Where peak torque is made is where the highest cylinder pressure occurs, which is where the most likely point of detonation can happen.

If you're just under the detonation threshold, then running at 6600 rpms means you're still not crossing that threshold to start detonating. You're just doing it multiple times. The trick though is that at high rpms the engine heats up drastically more and as it becomes heatsoaked, that can help lead to detonation. Nitrous is neat in that way though because it helps cool the engine at high rpms.

IMO nitrous is safer at high rpm than boost because it introduces a cooling charge which helps cool the engine much the same way water injection works
