nitrous at high altitude
does anyone have any info on using nitrous at high altitudes? i wanna know if since the high altitude kills power N/A i could run more nitrous safely at higher altitude. example... if a z at sea level can run a 100 shot safely would i be able to run a ~125 shot just as safely since i would then be putting down about the same power? or is it 100 is the max safe limit no matter what altitude?? keep in mind im saying 100 shot since im on stock timing, no utec yet. the only reason i ask is because everyone talks about ripping up tires on a 100 shot and it being so much fun... while i do notice a difference its not the tire shredding machine i was hoping for lol. im gonna try to get her on a dyno this weekend and hit the track next week to see the difference but just lookin for some insight. plus if i can run a 125 shot id rather dyno it with that

Think of it this way. No matter what your elevation, your engine is still working the same. Its output may be lower, but the amount of work that it does is still the same, hence the same amount of stress is applied. Likewise, the nitrous will add the same amount of pressure and stress regardless of elevation.
Also, what kind of a 100 shot are you talking about? Are we talking the NX's "whp" shots or ZEX and DT's "hp" shots?
As far as the track goes, anything more than NX's 50 shot or ZEX/DT's 75 shot will yield in massive wheelhop and/or wheelspin at the track in 1st and 2nd on street tires. I found that out the hard way tonight.
Also, if you're thinking that DRs or slicks will help that, think again. If you can't pull great times on street tires N/A, there's not a great chance in you doing any better on DRs/slicks and/or on juice. Practice N/A on street tires first, then move up to DRs/slicks, then spray. And I mean only move on WHEN you achieve above average times at each phases. Otherwise, you're only teaching yourself bad techniques, cutting corners, or letting yourself not fully understand how every minute detail affects your ET.

Instead of saying 100 shot this or 125 shot that, say the brand and jet sizing you are using. Like 3hree said, each company rates their "shots" differently. Dynotune is rated at the crank, and when I was reading a couple older nitrous threads, everyone use to say a 100 shot was the limit, talking about dynotune jets, but what I read, it is 100hp to the wheels given dyno variances, which is the limit - from what I read, not what I have experienced.

im using nx jets(52n 31f) so its about the same as a dynotune 125. i just wasnt sure if the limit was 100 shot (NX) or the total output... like if ~350 wheel hp was the limit that way i could tune the jets for that output. my thinking was since there is less oxygen up here i would be able to add a little more to make up for it lol.
i can drive decent... there is a little room for improvement which im working on but im usually running about .5 to .7 seconds faster than other z's at the track with similar mods (just intake and off the bottle). just to give you guys an idea most stock z's up here run mid 15's. i've been told on the local boards that it takes a great driver to get into the 14's stock and i was usually right around 14.8 to 15.2 depending on the day. im in denver by the way, the tracks elevation here is 5800ft. with DA's regularly over 7000!
now after seeing that you can probably guess why im not overly impressed hahaha. looks like its time for utec and a 150 shot

Hey!!
Hey, I just moved back from a high altitude area . Before I first moved , I was at a lower altitude. My 03 6mt was stock , and I ran consistant 14.0's-14.3's and even a 13.996 once @ 99-101 MPH.
Where I was located at high altitude did not have a track. Now that I am back to where I originally lived , I have installed an AAM plenum spacer, Strup headers ,Megan Racing cat back and test pipes , UTEC (running intake and headers base map) , and a zex 75 shot nitrous. My new E.T.s at the same track are consistant 14.3's. I have been back for 9 days before hitting the track for 2 days and about 15 runs.
My MPG at high altitude , up and down various mountains , and some level driving , was 14 mpg. In the states ; 18-28 mpg (tested) before and after move back.
I am just curious to know your E.T.'s on the 75 shot. and your mpg and what you consider your driving style example conservative , moderate , etc.
