Default NOS + Automatic = ?????

i need some advise on what to do to get the most out of it.
bone stock motor with basic bolt-ons. NOS 125 shot wet kit and Drag Radials. What can be done with the transmission? Icannot afford a manual swap.

I've looked and looked for a definitive answer on how strong the auto transmission is, but I've never gotten a good answer. I do know a valve body upgrade helps them quite a bit.

there are a couple guys running 350-400 whp on stock auto trans without to many issues. however the auto trans are a weak link and even the built auto's can only take 550ish before they start failing.

you could probably get away with just doing an upgraded valve body and trans cooler but who knows how long it will last.

I'm sure others will tell you it will be just fine but those of us who have been around a while have seen the failures.

are they electronically controllled? if so what tuner can be used to tune them in? what about torque converter?

It's been a few years since I had an auto Z. I did a bunch of research back then and can't remember most of the companies now. I know there is at least one good place that is building the trans and will try to remember or find it.

If I remember correctly most guys did the valve body upgrade and torque converter and called it a day for most simple turbo and supercharger builds. 350-400 whp.

I don't know much about autos but I think TransGo was the company a lot of people used.

Valve Body Upgrade - Most if not all shops use the TransGo kit, some add in their own modifications (I've read that Stillen's modifications are horrible). I would purchase the kit and find a local transmission shop that can do it for you ($250 kit, $500 labor, $100 fluid).

The tuner can modify line pressure through UpRev for firmer shifts, pairing that with the TransGo and you can chirp during shifts. YouTube around and you'll see before/after's of the kit, much much crisper.

Above all = Get a transmission cooler.

Please don't buy it from GTM - they already have backlogged orders I can only imagine how they'd see a $285 product. I bought mine from Summit Racing:

Grab the fluid off eBay (I used Nissan OEM S-Matic). For the cooler, you can look at getting a B&M Transmission Cooler for a good price.
