I just off the phone with Ruben about sending my unit in. He said that he could modify the unit but doesn't know if it will work or not. He said nobody ever let him know if the modifications they made worked. I have #8956 my understanding is they just need to modify the voltage and it will work. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

It will work just fine. MSD brought in a 350Z to their shop a few months ago for some testing. I got mine back in 2003 and it works just fine. I guess that if it did not work, Rueben would have heard back from all the people that have had their window switch modified.

That's exactly what I told him, people would have called you back if it didn't work. So they just need to modify the voltage. I'm sending mine out tommorrow.

You have to tell him that have to modify to work on one cylinder also... they already have one with that mod. (#8656-1) but they have to adjust the volt also...

hope this help!

When you use any Nitrous system you may need a window switch that have MSD... this prevent that you spray before you reach safe RPM's and prevent spraying when you rev the car for mistake! Basically is a safety Item...

Hope this help!

I just bought a nitrous kit from a guy and it came with a msd window switch. Will it work on my car or do I need to send it off to get it fixed or what? I dont know what you guys are talking about. Not the msd switch but sending it off to get fixed. Hope that made sense.

If the car that have the system was a 350Z or G35 it supoust to work fine... but if is not either of the cars you may call MSD and send it to mod. to work on your Z...

Heres there # and emails...

http://www.msd.com/contact.html

just tell them that you have a 350Z and want to mod your window switch to work on your car... that means:

1. they have to adjust the voltage to 5
2. adjust to work on ONE cilynder (mono cilynder)

But they will know what your talking about they are a few out there!

Hope this help!

If you are using a 89561 then the switch will work out of the box programming it to one cylinder and hooking up to any one of the 5 volt reference wires on any of the coils. If it is the 8956 or 8950 then it must be shipped to us to be modified for 5 volt reference and single cylinder then ties into one of the coils as mentioned above. We have tested this and it works with out any problems.

Thanks,

MSD tech4

I pulled the above off the msd website, any comments?

I don't know who is right or wrong, but MDS told me that the 89561 RPM switch has to be modified in order to work properly on the 350Z?

Let us know how it works out. I actually have both MSD boxes (#8956 and #8656-1). My 8956 model was sent into MSD for for modification and works just fine. MSD told me that both will work if modded, but that the 8956 was easier to modify?

Ok guys, I could not get 86561 to work. I used a small LED light to act as my testing point and did the below.

Yellow=went to ground on LED
Other side of LED = 12v Straight to Battery
Red=12v Straight to Battery
Ground=Ground Straight to Battery
Orange=Not used
Gray=Not used
White=When to red/yellow on number 1 coil pack #62 wire

Also cut the gray loop wire as indicated in the instructions.

Used 3000-6000 RPM pills

I think that maybe this thing is trying to see 5V and not .5V

Any ideas?

The 8956-1 don't have the 5 voltage read... you have to send it to mod. for the 350Z or G35!

youre right, he had it done, plus you must buy the MSD high current relay to go with it.

I just talked with someone on the MSD help line and they said that the 8956-1 does not need to be moded. For those who have sent in this switch, who did you talk with at MSD?

Ruben is the guy most people have talked to @ the tech center. Neither 8965 or 89561 will work without mod. that is a known fact both have been tried.

What is this high current relay that we supposedly need, first I've heard of it.
