It just got towed to a local shop.

I typed this on a local site when trying to describe the issues.

Two weeks ago, I turned on the car when leaving work & it made a "clacking noise."

As I accelerated, it would click with increasing speed until I reached cruising speeds.

I made an appointment with Nissan immediately, but then had a blowout on the way & had to leave the car parked along Hwy 1 at the Caddo Sheriff's training station.

Monday, I got the tire replaced & then drove it to Nissan. Being the car has so many miles (108k), the company thinks it'll cost more to diagnose than to replace & then gave me the 10k quote.

Talking with people in the know, one thinks it's a cam tensioner issue & another thinks it might be flywheel-related.

Fast forward to today-- I was going to drive the car to work (Coushatta) & have the guy who thinks it's a flywheel issue take a look. Upon starting, the car again made that "clack clack clack clack" noise & did the noises as I accelerated.

The farther I drove, the worse the noise sounded until it was doing it at cruising speed. I made it about fifteen miles before I decided it just wasn't worth it & started to turn around. After stopping, I pulled over & tried to go into first, but the car died when I pushed in the without its being moving. I restarted & it was making some AWFUL noises (sounded like something was contacting metal inside the car). I ended up dying twice more before I got on to Clyde Fant Parkway where it died for good & won't restart.

Thoughts?

did you pinpoint where the clacking noise was coming from in a certain area of the motor or tranny, and would you consider it a clacking or a knocking, any part of the rod, piston, wristpin or bearings clearances were out of spec it would cause that certain cylinder to clack/knock. . .did the clacking noise go with the rpm of the motor or something a little slower. . .?

Yeah if it's a knock it will go with the rpm of the motor.

Don't forget about those cheap long blocks that I sent you the link to.

At first, it was RPM dependent. Once it got hellacious, though I couldn't really tell where it was.

I really was thinking it was tranny related, but I didn't feel anything.

I think "clack clack" is the best onomatopoeia sound for what it was doing, lol.

The shop that people recommended highly told me they'd rather find the motor themselves so there's no recourse. I'm tied to it, I suppose.

Thank you. It will, I'm sure. I just can't wait to actually know what the issue is.
