My wastegate is open dumped and it is not as bad as people say. I really don't open the wastegates unless racing. I can usually pedal it around 0.5 bar and have more than enough power.
If I was you I would go open dumps because of the added hp, less chances of boost creep, less chances of cracking the manifolds, and it sounds cool.
Lance that coated method has proven to really help keep the temps down, you got a link to where that can be attained? or is that process has to be done from a manufacturer at the time of purchase of the item?

Not many manufacturers offer coatings but Swain Tech http://www.swaintech.com/store.asp?pid=8537&catid=19694
has been around for years and years. Their White Lightning coating is one of the best. They also have what is called BBE Heat Emitting Coating that is used mostly on intercoolers and pipes. It helps to emit the heat from metal.
Rob had his manifold an turbo exhaust housing coated and was a huge difference. I'm not sure if he got it done at Swain Tech
Thanks for the link, I have to say that the coating you speak off really does help a great deal. When we tuned Rob's car each and every time it is able to take a bunch of runs and the ECT remains a very desireable temperature based on the abuse that is given. Also the ambient temps in the shop at the moment are high as well, so this cooling system really does work well in conjuction with the coating.

As for the manifolds, I did give it some thought, and decided to just use exhaust wrap. Lots of higher whp cars with built motors still using the wrap. When we finish building my motor on the side I may have it coated. The only other thing I need to debate is what type of boost controller. Wanted one of the cheapies to cut cost, but will probably end up going with an ebc. Still unsure at this time. I could buy a solenoid and let the utec control the boost too. So many decisions!

Holy ****! $700 for two pipes, now that is just rediculous. I know a guy who could make those with v-bands for a few hundred less. Too bad he doesn't live down here anymore. I also know a guy in Westwego that might be able to do it. He mostly does custom cages.
I have exhaust wrap on my mani and dp and it does help but the turbo still radiates a good bit of heat. On my car I've burned through two brake master cylinder resivours because of the heat from the turbo, before I started to wrap things and add shields. Road racing is also the most taxing on all of your cooling systems and would build the most heat in the engine bay, so I've taken plenty of precautions in the terms of heat.
Oh, and be ready to look into a Koyo and an oil cooler.
If anyone needs custom oil coolers done contact me
