Detroit Area Z List part 3
yeah - if you're doing a lot of driving, make it worth it. we landed in vegas then immediately rented a car and drove to san diego to see a buddy of mine. then we drove back to vegas to stay for a few days, and turned the car in right away. we did a lot of walking and cabs the rest of the time.
i just wish i avoided Fox rentals. avoid that place like the plague. and hope you pick something cool! take video!!
there was a top gear episode where one guy flew from LA to vegas, and the other lucky bum drove the same route in a Ferrari California. holy crap - that's a car for a drive like that....

They have all have speed limits now, right?
One of the car rental places I was looking at offers a 25% industry discount.

That episode was great. :P I haven't been in the desert since before I was old enough to drive... Should be fun.
regarding driving schools, if you really want the ultimate driving school, I'd go here in Phoenix:

It's expensive, but totally worth it

I figured I would be able to find something relatively cheap and still fun for like a day out there. I was kinda reading about the Mid-Ohio school... it's relatively cheap if you drive your own car. In 4 days you can get a NASA competition license. Not that I really need that... :P
I am going to have to decide how to pack... I normally do two carry-ons (both of my bags will fit under the seat actually...) but Spirit bites and charges for ALL bags. I almost bought a more expensive ticket with a stop in midway to avoid it. Charges like that really **** me off. They'll probably charge for soda and peanuts too.
So aaaannnyywwaayyy... because of that charge and me being cheap I may not even take my GoPro since I may have to lug two laptops around for work.

I've been pretty happy with Delta since they killed Northwest Airlines.
I guess the baggage fee would suck but Delta waives that for Gold, Platinum and Diamond Elite.
Lee: Personally I'd skip the rental and invest in Rob's suggestion of going to Bondurant. A friend of mine used to be an instructor at Skip Barber and even he said Bondurant was the place to go.
If budget is an issue, the Bondurant karting is supposed to be cool. 4 hours for $400 and the karts can get up to 100mph in less than 6 seconds.
Have a great time Lee. Get some work done but leave lots of time for play too!

yeah.. I think it's going to take me a week to get used to the Z trans again after driving the 5spd VW all this time. I'll probably stall it out a few times.
But yeah.. I've got the itch to get the Z out.. not long now.
