Default Window Tint - Illinois

I am considering getting the windows professionally tinted on my Z this weekend. Does anybody know what the window tinting laws are for Illinois and how dark I can go without getting pulled over?

I dont think you can have tint on the Z up there. If you can its 10-20% which is like not having tint at all. I know you can run tint on the rear windows of a 4 door, but not on the front. It may have changed in the last 5 years though. Someone flame me if i'm wrong....

Any reputable tint shop should know the local laws. Keep in mind that it is TOTAL tint, so if the original windows have some tint, you have to take that into account.

from what I could gather on a few websites i've seen... I don't think you have any laws lol.... sides are any... back sides are any and the back is any... only thing I couldn't find is if you can have a brow and how dark it can be.... so you should be cool for whatever you want but like perfz said... check with a tinter in your area or call the state highway patrol...

I live in Ill. and you can't have any tints up front but in the back it is okay. I still have tints up front and try not to worry about it. 35% all around. I got pulled the first day I got it but it was only a warning so I got away with it...I just never drove through that city again...lol~

As mentioned above, a reputable shop will know.
As a back up plan. call the local State Patrol or city cops. I bet they can tell you.

Just a note for future reference: regional posts are better answered in the appropriate regional forum.

I found out from the Illinois State Police that it is illegal to have ANY tint on the front driver side or passenger side window. There is no limit to the darkness that can be used on the rear windows.

Man just do 5% all the way around, it will be so dark you cant see inside your car. its illegal but when u see a cop just roll them down man its not that hard. i have had 5 or even 2% on all my cars and every time i get pulled i drop the windows and its all good, inspection is a different story tho.

i have had 35% for almost 2.5 years, only been pulled over one time for it, but it was also because of no front plate. up where you are, cops have better things to do.
