DETROIT Z (meets and events)
Psst, AJ. I'm going to be needing some HFC install help in the near future. Just sent payment for some used Ultimate Racing HFC's.
I was driving down the highway and saw something in the middle of the road.. I thought I could clear it. I was wrong. It was a block of wood that was about 1/2" too high. I centered it perfectly and it knocked off the smaller plastic cover behind the large front plastic cover under the car. It also chipped the lips on both of my stock cats that seal the gasket.. Other than that, I see, hear and feel no damage. There was a slightly burnt chunk of wood stuck up in one of the v-clamps holding my Motordyne exhaust together. Everything else looks good though. I think I got VERY lucky.
I suppose it's possible that it stressed the headers or something.. but I don't think I'll know until something else breaks.
When the HFC's arrive I'll be trying to schedule a quickie install. I could just buy some more tools myself... but I'm already down $300 more than I wanted to spend this month.
(lol.. yeah.. i feel real bad that I had to buy some HFC's )
Next is Osiris...
pic of the 2nd undertray that got powned by the wood block..

I bought my Carbotech brake pads + Oil Filter @ Oakos and I didn't realize that we decided to meet there the next week
Chris helped me out with the purchase, said hello to Dave while I was there. Didn't talk a whole lot because I stepped out of work (Ann Arbor) had to rush back before 5

We are planning to meet around 9:30 at this time, although I just sent a message to Brian that early is Ok if he wants to.
You are welcome to come on over, I will PM you my address.

Deepu, and Rob...I will probably not make it.
I have to run over and help my friend Andrea move some stuff around her place for a few minutes. I will call you after that.
Steve, of course you can use the extension. It makes it so much easier.
Looks like you did get a little lucky..
All you guys and your HFC's...get TP's for god sakes..

We successfully completed the brake pad install and the oil change
A million thanks to Brian for coming over and helping me out.
AJ, when you decide to change pads I will be able to help you out. You will still need someone like Brian to look at things but I can help work with 1 or 2 of the wheels.

nice. let us know what you think of the pads when you have some road/track time on them. mine are starting to squeek a bit too.... dammit.
picked up a 3 ton floor jack today...the little one just isn't cutting it. i was pretty claustrophobic after changing the oil the other night, lol. gotta crawl under again and fix a possible exhaust leak. some very peculiar sounds are now coming out from under it when i engine break......

Hey! I said no pics of me! LOL

Here I am cleaning the outside of the rear caliper after finishing the pad install in less than 5 minutes. Deepu is just getting started on the front! LOL (I had to brother!) The fronts are more difficult though! I hope everything works out well. If these pads turn out to be low dust, I may go Carbotech as well. (Non-Brembo of course)
Deepu was a great student. He tackled everything with great enthusiasm and fully understood the concept of how it works as well as how to do it. You can tackle the next one without me but I'll be there anyway. Probably working on something else. (Got those pipes on AJ?)
Thanks for getting us started Rob! Too bad you couldn't hang longer. Sorry I was so late.

Oops forgot to thank Rob.... thank you Rob
He helped me bring up the car on jack stands. I never even put a car on jack stands, so yeah this is a BIG thing for me .. LOL
I have been reading more and more and I am worried about the rotors. Carbotech strongly recommends that the rotors be resurfaced if they were used with a different pad material before installing their pads.
I am not sure if I should try the bedding process (series of hard stops and cooling down) without resurfacing them

Looks like fun!
Deepu yes go through the nomral bedding process.
You have the good rotors so you should be fine. That warning is more for a guy with a Honda Civic that throws carbotechs on..those rotors will DIE fast.
Brian-I still don't HAVE the pipes there making a new batch soon.
Had a 02 Mustang Cobra Supercharged downshift on ME on 23 last night.
In the staights he was catching me, I took the turn before Hartland at about 120 he let off...he got back on it but I was way too far ahead of him.
I am calling that a win on sheer *****.
Awesome car though, had a pulley and an exhasut at least.
I know the car is faster in a straight line thats for sure...
So much fun my first race in the 370..wahoo

Nice to see your brake work went smoothly. I didn't fair so well. I found out that my pads do not fit in my rebuilt calipers. The pads are to spec (119mm wide), but the calipers are not.. so I need to got back to the caliper rebuilder and see if they can fix their work.... It's always something.
Glad that I didn't take the old calipers off before I realized that I wouldn't be able to put pads in the new ones! I will see what they say tomorrow.
I did finally get the VW running again. It threw a CEL shortly after I bought it. The fix was... plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, clean MAF, clean throttle body, replace shitty attempt at cold air intake with new OEM air intake parts, and a new special order vacuum hose.
I also replaced the dangerously dark blacked out tail lights and fixed a water leak at the tail lights with the proper rubber gaskets.
....car drama...

Good job AJ, that's awesome
I am not so good at shifting yet and so never ever respond when someone signals for a race on the street.
Steve, that's a bummer that the pads do not fit your calipers. What pads did you get again?
Rotor resurfacing for my Brake Pads
I did not want to take chance with the rotors so I went and got the rotors resurfaced at Sears. I did not want to spend too much and the cheapest I found was them. So I went there and told them like a dozen times to be careful with the wheels and I was there while they did the job. Excellent job no scratches and got it done for 120. Dealer wanted 300 for the same, can you believe that.
I also followed the bedding process to the Tee as recommended by Carbotech. I did one cycle of Ten 60-10 mph near stops, Five 80-10 mph near stops and then drove around for 6-8 mins with out using brakes and parked the car for 35-40 mins and repeated the cycle. The rotors now have the teal colored pad layer on them. I am excited to try them out at the next track day on Thursday and see how they perform.

Billy - Car looks sexy as always. So when's the built motor coming?
Steve - That sucks about the skid. Luckly it's only the cats you have to replace and not any suspension components
Deepu - You're welcome. I wish I could have stayed longer to help you guys out and learn myself. So you paid Sears only $100 to have them take the rotors off for you AND skim them? That's not a bad deal if you consider the labor for all 4. That def. is one of my concerns when I put my pads on (which won't be till next year most likely) and if I have enough pad life left. Maybe I'll have to buy new rotors (which will be another 300+) so instead I may just sell the pads and put brembo's on haha. Let me know what you think of the carbotech's, especially street noise (squeal).
AJ - you're crazy (end of story) haha. j/k, actually had dinner at maisano's fri night, was gonna stop by to check out the 370 but had to catch a movie
Mod-party / meet-up - So who all has stuff to install? I wanna checkout Brian's V2 front and Yancy's crazy ride and AJ's 370. We should just all meet up for food or somethin. Are we still doin the Oakos thing? I won't be here this weekend.
Autocross - Did really well yesterday. Was only 0.20 seconds off the STI guy who normally beats me by a full second. Are we gonna have a showdown at the end of this season again?
ok bai!
Oh also:
TUNING: I'm trying to get Injected Performance to get us a group buy deal on the Osiris tune since I'm in need of one with all the breather mods (as I'm sure a few others are as well). So would anybody be interested in getting a tune with Osiris down at IP? It'll help fix your a/f ratio (if ppl are running lots of breather mods with no tune it's not very good for the motor) and improve throttle response / power and all the other quirks like speed limiter / raised redline etc.

Rob, obviously I am out on the osiris, good idea though. Maher's car ran SO much better after he tuned it, it really was amazing.
Glad you did good at your autocross man.
Woodward was hilarious, all of a sudden those storms rolled in. It was like a college party when the cops showed...everyone was flying trying to get home before there car got soaked... I say a cobra kit car with NO top just get soaked...
I will not be there this weekend its the dreamcruise, I will be on woodward all weekend.
What is everyone doing tomorrow night?
Anyone interested in going for a cruise on woodward to see the real dreamcruise, when the cars move anyway.

I ask because my rebuilt calipers have no gap for the pads - they are tight.. I really do not think they are supposed to be this way.

the rears are fine...
