I bought a Canon EOS 5D 12.8MP Digital SLR yesterday.

Anyone want to shoot some pics with it?

And does anyone know how to use this thing

 

LOL - If you haven't already, get two things.

1) A UV Filter. (This does very little except protect your lens surface from scratches while handling the equipment. Nice insurance. UV filters are cheaper than new lenses.

2) A circular polarizer filter. This is awesome for shooting cars. The outer ring turns to change the polarizing. Say you're shooting a car with the sun behind you. (As it should be. Avoid mid-day shots, use low level light like near sunset.) Anyway, you normally see bright spots where the sun reflects. Turn the polarizer to remove that.

The polarizer also does a great job bringing out the color by eliminating distracting reflections in the paint and tint can look limo dark when the ring is turned.

These two items are inexpensive. I suggest you get a UV for every lens you have and leave it on.

The Canons are simple and complex. Starting out, you can't go wrong setting it to the green box setting on the macro dial. That is basicly automatic. Play with the different settings. When shooting close detail (a flower or some detail of a car part, you want to change to a close up setting. I think it's a picture of a flower.) This changes the focal points.

I too look forward to meeting. AutoX sounds cool although I am orange cone challanged. "Uh, why is everyone yelling and waving their arms? Oh! Am I supposed to go this way?" LOL . I've got family commitments on Saturday with the wife's company picnic. Sunday, I believe it's supposed to rain, right? As usual, it's a total guess.

Xceed Meets: I've never been to one outside the BBQ. Sometimes I meet with the A2SC (Ann Arbor Sport Compact) guys or the RX8club.com guys for a fun run to Hell, Michigan. A2SC meets by the Wendy's and Damons in the Comerica building lot next to Briarwood Mall every Saturday night at 7-9. (Or whenever)I may go if the weather is nice and we get back from the picnic at a decent time.

Xceed BBQ, Yup. I'll be there. Last spring, I was there in my Sunlight Silver RX8. It'll be easy to choose which one to drive this time. LOL. My car is not clean enough to line up with the crew that attended last spring. Maybe I can park it in the back. LOL.

I know what you mean about the Honda kids. I never felt so old as when I showed up at the Spring BBQ. (I'm 38 so just over twice the age of most Xceed members.)

Like in the Spring, I'll go, get some food, walk around and chat with a few owners if they are cool then split. If we have a good turnout of 350Zs, then I'd like to hang longer and get to know you guys. So Rob, you've got to show!
