nice Z dude (Zivman)...i dont know if you knew who i was, i was the guy with no hair and a white tee on, standing next to my buddie barry (owns the sti).

i have seen them before at HIN...aside from the minneapolis one, i go to the ones in chicago usually. i also met a kid down at "midway" that had the greddy TT kit.

the reason im thinking of S/C over TT because the APS TT is very expensive, and the procharger kit will give me almost the same numbers at almost half the price. did you check out the Z with the procharger kit at HIN? i think it was running 450 or was it 500 hp?? i dont remember. i also forgot what it all had done to it.

The S/C power is not anywhere near what you will see with even a ST setup, let alone a TT. Sure, the peak numbers can be comparable, but a turbo'd Z will be sooo much more powerful. S/C really need to be pushing hard to make 400 whp, even on a stock block. Not only that, you don't even come close to the TQ that a turbo'd setup offers, and peak power for a S/C means reving it to near 7K all the time. low end and mid range is pathetic compared to a turbo setup.

If a S/C floats your boat, then more power to you, but they are not really comparable wise to turbo. They can add some decent peak HP and do so with a much easier to install setup. That said, component wise, they aren't going to be cheaper to buy if you factor in comparable EMS and fuel systems that are needed for FI. Also, there is more consistant maintenance work on a S/C vs a turbo with replacement belts and oil changes on the blower.

I did see the vortech Z at HIN. I thought it was making 406 whp, but I could be mistaken. that is about the most power I have seen with a vortech kit. check out "Sentry" on the boards and see what he is making for power. As far as I know he may be making the most power of anyone with a S/C.

Do more research and don't just look at peak HP, look at the curves. It is about the area under the curve, not peak HP

 

thanks for the advice, i dont know what im gunna do yet, good stuff to know though. all i know right now is that im gunna get the 1/2 iso thermanl plenum spacer (to bad i have to take the stock strut bar off to make it fit) and the iso thermal MREV 2 manifold.

we ate with you guys but when we got to SA Barry got a call from one of our buddies and he wanted to roll, so he went to go pick him up and i waited at SA for them. we tried catching up with you guys but we didnt, so we parked in some hotel parking lot for like 5 bucks a car...wasn't a bad show, not as good as the nightshifts, but it was good.

yea i saw the vortech S/C Z, there was a procharged one to, it was silver i believe. i did how ever fall in love with that blue supra, the underbody was amazing.

that supra didnt even start... They had to roll it in and they almost got disqualified for winning best of show because it didnt run...
