Yes, I know it's a nice perk. Other agents have nicer cars or SUV's though.

Yeah, I'm not really into those so I'm at the bottom of the career ladder.

So been really thinking about getting a new job lately. Thinking long term wise and finding a job that is union/offers a pension for when I retire since I can't solely rely on my ESOP or 401k or a social security check if it's still around by the time I retire, doubt it..

It's always tough to go to a new job. After 15+ years with my first real secure and adult job, I made the leap into my current one and haven't looked back. However, that leap was a tough one.

Even with a job that supposedly offers a pension and 401k, you still have to plan ON YOUR OWN and make sure you have something else waiting to help keep you afloat. Things like mortgages, credit cards, luxury items, etc have to be considered as the type of expense you don't want to have when you retire. Even though I'm years away from retirement (mandatory for me), I'm thinking about consulting with a financial advisor to start planning it.

I love financial topics.

I have everything planned out for my retirement already. Been reading, studying and learning about being a financial adviser for about 6 months now. My brain is about to explode. Probably won't be the riches guy to retire but will survived. Only debts that will still be with me will probably be my mortgage (which I have not got it yet) and student loans (will be paid off by then, I think ).

I think a lot of people as they get older would do fine and can survive on social security and some little savings if they don't have a lot of debts or if they were to live with their children's when they are older. Hey, that's why we have kids for. When we get old, they are suppose to take care of us like how we take care of them and raise them up when they were still little babies until age 18. For me, that's my way of giving back to my parents once they are old enough to the point they need some help or support from me.

IMO, I don't think retirees should be traveling none stop, purchasing things all over the places and spending money towards useless craps, etc. If someone wants to live a bling bling life after when they retire than they'll need a lot of money from savings. Otherwise if you're just going to live a normal quite life, relax, and got the things you needed you'll be fine.

Sorry for the long comments.

Btw, where's the nice sunny warm weather? Mother nature needs to heat it up because in my current state of mind, I'm not in the mood to do anything and I want to get some things done on my Z so I can take it out of storage and start enjoying my ride again.

March is usually a crappy month when it comes to the weather cooperating with us hermits. I am glad the weekend was warm and sunny. I'm even happier that I took Friday off and got such a nice day.

As for my retirement, I'll have 3 incomes if I plan things right and stay with the feds. Unfortunately, my retirement will be the same time my youngest son will hopefully be finishing college. I don't know how I'm going to afford to help pay 3 boys through college, but I'll try. They're going to have to get jobs or something.

I need a new a career. I am over due. My benefits at my job suck.

no pension
no 401k
no health benefits
no esop

I do have a lot of vacation time, when the weather is sh!tty, but better than nothing. Grass is always greener. I seem to focus on the bad stuff all the time... like when my hands look like this:

or spending every night baby sitting a gun:

or having to repair a broken hard hose in the middle of a muddy field:

or being short workers and coming in to the building and having to unload this myself:

Maybe I should remember the good things.. like my morning commute:

or the feeling when we cut the last field of corn for the season:

Ha! I see good and bad points in your visual aids. Just imagine what it was like 100 years ago. Again, there's a reason why farms are disappearing. I wouldn't want that job unless it was the only job left. Props to you, Aaron. Maybe you should look for a new job.

Aaron your hands look like mine at the end of everyday. I might not lift boxes of corn butn I lift plenty of shingles and concrete through out the day. I remember I figured it out once before on how much weight through out the day I lift around 30 thousand pounds of building materials a day by hand not including the weight I lift using a forklift during the summer.
