Default Veilside V1 + Data Systems Spoiler - Paint?

I just got an estimate to get the Veilside V1 body kit (fiberglass)and Data Systems rear spoiler (fiberglass) prepped, painted, and installed (including refinish and paint whole front bumper facia). Two estimates: (1) Lakeside Collision Inc. $2,724.58 (2) Collex Collision $2,356.35.

Does this sound right? MDACKO, any idea how much those guys that painted your Greddy body kit would charge? Also, do they bake their paint?

My biggest concern is color match of the parts to my car. A little extra to get this is fine, but are the above-figures way too high?

Thanks.

they actually both seem VERY high...usually people post very low quotes and are told to search for higher prices

veilside version 1 body kit will require MINIMAL work...even though its aftermarket it will require little to NO modification to fit

the data systems spoiler should also fit OK right out of the box

so basically they quoted you to paint 5 considerably small pieces WAYYYY too expensive

if you had a full body kit its a different story..even then its expensive

and its not like anyone can really screw this job up..it just depends on paint quality

it seems like they really abused the verbs "prepped" and "installed" to justify their high quote....dont let them tell you that the kit requires a lot of work cause it doesnt

for some reason those quotes are really pissing me off

Thanks for the insight. These quotes have me pissed off too. Both places were like most after market kits usually take work to fit right, etc., etc.

Here's the thing. I already test fit the front lip spoiler and the side skirts - all fit like a glove. (the V1 sideskirts are made to sit a little bit away from the car). It took me less than an hour to install these and even less time to remove.

Quality of the parts are excellent and should require little prep. As far as the Data Systems rear spoiler, it also fits like a glove. In fact, I couldn't expect it to fit any better. If you sit in on the hatch it matches up with the curves of the car perfectly.

For the love of god, even though I told these guys that I already test fit the above-parts, here is what one of them added into the price quote:

"TEST FIT CUSTOM PARTS ADDNL LABOR OPERA 5.0HR"

5 hours for professionals to test fit the parts to the car? I'm a person that rarely works on cars and did it in 1 hour with 0 experience in this area.

MDACKO's sunset Z looked good at the show. Paint matched as perfect as you could want and the shine was like stock. It all looked good and, if I remember correctly, she got it all done for a reasonable price in Ann Arbor.

Don't forget what part of the country you're in. Most of these places don't know what "aftermarket" is...besides 22inch treads on an Excursion.

Have you aksed someone at GodSpeed to recommend a good shop? If not, there is a customizing shop in Livonia called First Class Auto that does high quality work. I don't think they have a paint shop, but could also recommend a good place.

I just think you need to find a place that does more than insurance work.

this place will tell you that "this is the price to pay if you want it done right"...tell them to shove it

when places do collision and use OEM parts there is usually a certain universal list that they go by to determine the prices for labor

when it comes to aftermarket they will start tacking on all different things

i used to have the version 1 side pieces...took me 20 min to get them on...basically it takes as long as it takes to jack up the car..

i know that you want it done right...but since this is a fairly simple job considering that it doesnt need ANY modification you should search around for different shops...dont compromise for a bad shop..all im saying is for this job you dont need a place that "specializes" in aftermarket stuff

i;ve been to first class auto a few times for my last car, i dont like their service too much, but im forced to go there again for my z. i dont think they do paint work either. i took my last car there for a radio install. some idiot backed into it while it was parked. they paid to repaint my bumper, but i was out of a car for 1 week AND the paint did not match at all. so even if they do paint jobs, i dont recommend them.

if u cant get a hold of mdacko, try asking etx. the paint on his spoiler matched perfect with his sunset z. he was at that meet we had a few weeks back. not sure if u noticed the spoiler though.
