Default WHEEL SECURITY...Northern VA

Hey, yesterday morning I awoke to find that all my wheels were taken. I got 3 other donut spares from the dealer so that I could get it towed *on a flat bed*.

The reason for my post is the tow truck driver told me that it was the second 350Z that he had towed (also in Alexandria) because the wheels were stolen.

I don't know why some one would take wheels that are unique to the Z which is not exactly a car that has saturated the market, but it seems there are some people in No. Va. that want these wheels.

Just wanted to let y'all know so that if you haven't yet (like me) got 1 or more wheel locks, you will.

Sorry to hear about your loss... but if theres any good that can come from this, maybe you could use the insurance money to get some better tires as everyone here seems to suggest.

Good luck!

Well, the insurance company will cut a check for what was missing, I'll have to see how much they will give me. If they
are available, I'm going to have Michelin A/S Sport Pilots installed.

I also asked the dealer to install 2 locking lug nuts on each wheel and install a Lo-Jack system. Hopefully, that will discourage all but the most determined thief.

Sorry to hear this...hopefully the INS co treats you right.

Do the Wheels fit on other cars? You can get the S03's for less I think?

Default Mine came with locks

Wow. Sorry to hear about this.

My dealer delivered the car with wheel locks. Now I'm glad he did. I might not have done it myself, at least not right away.

Although after the service manager told me when I took delivery that the dealer price for the wheels was $1,600 per, I probably would have done it fairly quickly.

Go for the S-03s! Cheaper than the R040s and better in every respect.

Thanks for the input all! As soon as the insurance adjuster does his things, I'll discuss the possibilities with the service manager.

I just want to make sure I understand this. One factory Rays wheel is $1,600 from the dealer? Incredible.

I have the 17 inch/7 spoke wheels. I will let y'all know what price the insurance appraiser put on the wheels.

I was thrown by the comment "$1600 per".

$400 per wheel might sound right for the 17" wheels but sounds low for the Rays which are on commasense's Track model. I assume the Rays would be at least $600 per wheel if not higher.

Default Yes, each!

I may have misremembered: the service manager may have said $1,300, but he was telling me the dealer list price for one wheel.

Either way, $1,600 or $1,300, it's a lot. But of course it may be one of those prices that's always discounted and that nobody actually pays.

I didn't check it myself. That's just what he said.

Sorry to hear about your lost. When I picked up my Z I had removed the wheel locks from the Maxima I was trading in. After reading your story, I immediately install the wheel locks. Fortunately they fit. I hope this doesn't become the newest craze for car thiefs. It's bad enough there is a run on the Headlight assemblies with the Maxima's
Good luck with your Insurance Company

VA Gentleman - sorry to hear about your wheels being stolen. Being an Alexandria native it pisses me off to hear this but, I shouldn't be surprised, it happened to me back in the early 90's(all four wheels). That's another story though.

Also, I want to make one thing clear... wheel locks will not prevent a real thief from getting your wheels off of your car!!! This is not to say don't put them on your car. But, wheel locks are not an absolute solution.

Well, I'm getting 2 locks/wheel...maybe I should get all lug locks, i.e., 5/wheel. I'm also going to have my VIN engraved on each wheel. Short of taking the wheels off each night when I get home or putting a lojack unit inside each wheel, I think it's the best I can do.

FYI

The total for the 4 tires came to about $850 and the wheels came to about $2500. I never found any aftermarket rims that I really just "had to have", so the stock rims are ok w/ me. Also, the RE040's have handled fine for me. So again, stock is fine with me

(at this point I just want something that will make the car roll again )

Thought it may take some time to gather up the parts, but I called today (the appraiser was there yesterday) and the parts department guy told me they have my tires and 2 wheels already there. The other 2 wheels are comming from Dallas. The job should be completed early next week.

YAY!!
