Default need NJ ticket help

first ticket in over 3.5 years with the Z(actually my first ticket ever).... In the middle of a mental brain freeze i got a careless driving ticket for passing an unmarked cop car in the right hand lane. He didnt get me for speeding and i didnt actually pass him but, came up behind him moved over to the right lane sped up a few mph and couldnt pass due to another car in front of me in the right...so i start slowing down and he pulls in behind me. It was last week so it was the end of the month and a BS ticket, but still retarded on my part. Tickets $85 plus 2 pts, whats my options?

If you have a decent driving record you might get off with just paying the ticket and court fees.

Definitely go to court. Talk to the prosecutor they should be able to knock it down to 0 points and an extra fine

Yea when I got my speeding ticket i got "obedience to traffic control devices" with no points. Like a $100 fine. At the time when I was in college the campus cops told me thats usually what it gets knocked down to if people go to court to fight a ticket with points. A little later my roommate got a couple points for speeding and he went to court to fight it. They knocked it down to the same thing I got straight from the cop. No points, smaller fine. Fight it. Whats the worsts they'll do, say no?

well, im going to be a delaware state cop, if you want, take it to court, tell them you want to plea no contest, its a guilty but your not a fault, theres also probation before judgement, witch is they knock the fine down and no points then you have a year i believe for probation what it is, is if you get a ticket with in the year of probation your old ticket will have the points added to your drivers LC, if you dont get a ticket within the period of time, your speeding ticket you have is marked off your LC and record,

you can also always tell them not guilty, and you want to take it to the court of common pleas, it is then up to the state to prove your guilty, they will try to give you a deal, tell them no, you want a trial court, witch is ok because a ticket is a formal arrest, they will get to court and throw it out mostly because they judge will have other cases like rape and murder, it happens all the time..

if i was you and this is your first ticket i would do probation before judgement and i think NJ has it..

In Jersey you get 1 get out of Jail free card I 'll call it, just go to court and speak to the Prosocuter he/she will tell what to do, the fine will be higher but there will be no points, that is what you want to get rid of is the points not so much the points on your liscense put the points that go on your Insurance.

thanks for the help everybody...njdan thats what i was hoping for. I dont mind paying the extra fine, but i really would like to get the points knocked off of course. Im still a relatively young driver(22) and dont want to deal with the insurance repercussions. Its unfortunate i mean i dont speed, dont race, nothing stupid for almost 4 years now in the Z(mostly because i dont want to pay any higher for insurance). All i do when im driving is look for cops, I'm ultra paranoid. just had a mental lapse and was in a rush to get somewhere.

so you think theyll just knock the points off? would they tell me i need to take a driver safety course in lieu of pts(or whatever they call it)?

BTW it happened in Freehold on 195, which is a road I rarely drive on so I guess I wasnt as familiar with the cop activity.

No, just go talk to the Prosocutor, ask them about what I mentioned and they will let you know what you can do. Just remember NJ will only give you that 1 get out of jail free card.If you need any other info PM me.

depending on where you got your ticket you looking at between 400-500 in costs...so depending on your insurance you might just be better off with a small rate hike

Yeah, i've done the guilty plea to "unsafe operation" for 0 pts. and a $250 fine or something. The "court fee" was added to the ticket fine. So i ended up paying $500 to lose the pts. Sucks, but oh well.

Does anyone know if Geico raises your rates if you get pts. for a moving violation? I know NJ Manufacturers doesn't jack up your rate (which i will be switching to soon).
