Just started seeing this girl and we're driving up from VA tomorrow for the ECZA meet and afterward we plan on heading into the Philly area for dinner and to see the city. I'm not familiar with the town at all so I'm asking you locals for helpful suggestions.
We're both 24, listen to metal/rock music and enjoy bars with good fun atmosphere...if it helps we probably plan on leaving around 10pm to head back home. Thanks in advance everyone.

you can hit china town near the convention center... I think there is a flower show going on not 100% then also that freaking music place is right there... god i hate myself for not knowing this.
I would definitely hit up Old City, it's a nice area, it's probably about 30 minutes from where the show is taking place. There are a lot of nice/classy bars in the city.
For some nice restaurants, you might want to check out:
1). Pod - A little pricey, I've never been before, but I've never heard one complaint. amazing atmosphere:

2). Buddakan - A little pricey also, but I've also heard this place is nice. It's located on Chestnut street In Philadelphia.

Some bars that have REALLY nice atmosphere's along with a good crowd of people are:
1). Bleu Martini (Sometimes they require you to wear a sport coat in).

2). Tangerine Restaurant/Bar - Really nice atmopshere, incredible martini's. IT's more of a quiet atmosphere.

3). Red Sky - Usually have music going and the inside is really cool. I've personally have always loved the music, atmosphere, and people at Red Sky.

There are a lot of places around where these three bars are, and everything is within walking distance. If you're looking for something louder and a little more crazy, you might want to check out Finnigans Wake. http://www.finnigans.com/.
Whiskey Tango also is really cool, I've gone to Whiskey Tango a few times and there are literally like 5 bars in that place and the first floor has a live rock band playing while upstairs has a techno/DJ playing music. That place was nuts. Check out the site, that should explain it alll haha. http://www.whiskeytangotavern.com/
I hope this helps and enjoy!

Recommend ordering the fillet minion, a side (like baked potato), and you must order the Lava Cake when you order your meal so they have time to prepare it.

I can vouch for Bleu Martini in Old City, I went there a couple months ago and it was really nice. Kind of a more 'classy' joint though, so probably not the best place for hard rock and bar atmosphere. Oh and if you go to Old City have fun driving around on their bumpy-*** brick and cobblestone roads. It was terrible driving there with my 17" winter tires....19" summer setup, forget it!

Bleu Martini is nice, but after 10 it gets kinda crowded and it gets a little over crowded...If I were you I'd go to Ritten House Square...A little more up scale and less played out than old city. Try going upstairs at Continental midtown. They by far have the nicest lounge/bar in Philly, and great food too. It's on the roof, outside and theres a fireplace in the middle. Really classy, a little expensive, but once again by far, IMHO, the nicest place to take a girl out in Philly. Closes at 2, then after words, go down the street to Denim for After hours until 4am.

think all these guys got ya covered!
Old City area is where its at as far as lots of choices in bars that a) arent dives and b) have a good healthy crowd but not wall to wall
if you're looking for laid back place to hang Buffalo Billiards is a cool pool hall bar that plays alot of indie and punk rock and lots of micro brews on tap
