Default Went to the Dealership today*problem*

i went to the nissan dealership today in wilton ct, its bruce bennet nissan, i was lookin at 07 Z's, while my murano was in getting the oil changed, and i asked the dealer that i was seriously interested in buying a new Z, he sat me down and told me how much the payment would be, and then i asked him if i could drive it, and he wouldnt let me test drive it, until they got a down payment, i was like wtf is that point of that, cuz if i dont like driving it, then why should put a down payment on it...he said he has to ask his manager, supposedly last week, someone took a Z for a test drive and rear ended somebody, so now there kinda scared to let ppl drive the Z's, going back next week to purchase =)

SO the Murano is yours or your parents? Stealerships love people who talk payments!

That is crap. I have heard of dealerships doing that. Honestly, I would just walk out. It isn't a damn Ferrari, its a $30k 350Z.

You've got an EVO, per the Profile, that is substantially faster than the 350Z. Why switch? Also, what is the purpose in having an EVO and a Z, or what happens to the EVO if/when you got a Z?

i have lancer OZ which keeps up with evos, except fwd, it has a eagle talon tsi motor, 2.0L turbo, basically the same motor as the evo, it came out of a eclipse gs-t, it has some mods, not a whole lot, 373fwhp..the murano belongs to my parents, i love nissan cars, and have dreamed over the Z for a long time, bought the lancer for a project car, cuz nobdy has really seen it, and it grabs attention, but not the attention i want, and its not a really "respected" i role into parking lots and its like "hey look at the wannabe evo lmao!!" then they lose to me, kinda funny, lookin for a true sports car, and another project car =)

I'm seeing a huge red flag right away here...Do not let this this guy rope you into a "how much do you wanna pay per month" conversation. If you do that, they can very easily concoct a creative financing arrangement that gives you whatever payment you tell him, but causes you to pay through the nose via interest, finance charges, etc. Remember, you're there to buy a car, not a payment amount...negotiate a final price on the vehicle and then worry about what the payments will be.

Also, the fact that he won't let you test drive it is BS. If it were me, I'd be searching for another dealer at this point.

When I was negotiating the price for my 2006 Z I told the guy I did not want to pay more than $275 per month (I had a good down payment also) and I was basing it on 60 month loan term. He was like "yeah we can do $260 per month" and so I said "...yeah, but over how many months?" He said "well, that would be 72 months". I said to him "I'll bet we could get my payment down to $40 per month if I pay from now until I'm in my 90's".

Point being, I agree that you shouldn't go in talking monthly payments. Probably not a great idea to get a loan term longer than 5 years. On your own figure out how much you have for a down payment and how much you can afford per month for 60 months (or less time if possible). Go online to get the simple interest formula or whatever they use to calculate the car loan principle+interest. Use something like Excel to expand it out over the loan term and figure out what is the maximum car price you can afford. Don't forget sales tax plus tags+title+any other up-front costs.

You want to go in to the dealership and ask for a certain sell price, not a monthly payment. If you go in very educated it usually disarms the salesman to some extent. If the price you want seems reasonable and he won't budge, drive 10 miles down the road to the next Nissan dealer.

find the car you want and post the MSRP here and we'll let you know what you should be paying.

Google Edmunds car calculator. Put in your down payment, what you think you could get for a rate, and the price and term -- done. It will give you the monthly payment. Be aware, it will probably be higher than you want it to be.

While you are there, you can use the tool they have for what the invoice on the vehicle is likely to be, what others in your area are paying, etc.

BTW, how can you just trade in your parents Murano?
